it is really not a good idea, especially if he is getting older and his kidneys, etc. are slowing down...
Here is a link to a "beer" that is made for dogs. Safe and healthy!

Well, there are those dogs whom have very poor tastes as to what they should be drinking(Scottish or even Irish whiskey's are the best after all.) and not drinking. However, there really isn't any evidence to my knowledge as to a small amount(about a half a measuring cups worth that is) of drinking alcohol hurting your dog. Although, I would worry if he started doing nothing BUT drinking all day and started getting a gut like Cliff Claven off of Cheers. Yet I digress.

giving a dog alcohol is the equivalent of giving the same amount of alcohol to a child of the same weight. Of course the dog will love it, but he will be intoxicated after a very small amount. If he really likes it, you can get some non-alcoholic beer for him.........its not great for him, but its better than the alcohol type.

Alcohol is toxic to animals even in small doses.
Alcohol
Alcohol is a poison that happens to produce enjoyable side effects in humans, in moderation.
Short-term overindulgence can kill by poisoning you, and long-term overindulgence can kill by destroying the liver and interfering with important body functions.
Your dog is much smaller than you, and so is much more susceptible to the poisonous effects of alcohol, including death.
Some of the signs that your dog has been drinking alcohol include its odor on his breath, slow respiratory rate, increased urination, staggering or a wobbly gait, excitement, depression, disorientation, behavioral changes, hypothermia, seizures and cardiac arrest.
To protect your dog, keep all alcohol containers (liquor and wine bottles, beer cans and bottles, glasses and tumblers) out of his reach.
Train your dog not to approach any of these containers, especially if they are on a low table. Be particularly aware of plastic liquor bottles, which he could easily chew through.
There's enough alcohol in a "mickey" to kill a small dog.

its not good for him but my mom lets her dog lick the last drops out of her beer bottle (boozer dog) but we never give her more than a few drops, my advice is just don't give him too much or too often, you don't want to turn your dog into an alcoholic
