The New Testament is the fulfillment of the types and prophecies that are given in the Old Testament. A good rule of thumb to remember...
The New is in the Old concealed.
The Old is in the New revealed.
Example:
If you did not know that Psalm 22 was Old Testament, you would be convinced it was New Testament. Also, if you read it in its context and scope, the book of Revelation from chapter 4 to 22 is Old Testament.

The New Testament tells about the guy who staged his life. sufferings, death and ressurection prophesied in the Old Testament. It can be true up to certain point. The teachings however about his life afterwards can be good and worth the effort to study, learn and understand.
There are just precautions that one may need, as the teachers would normally try to insinuate that the Old Testament can be obsolete because of its contradiction to some of what is written in the New Testament. Some wisdom may be good to the hearing but may also contain some materials leading to death. You discerment is very much needed.

The Old and New Testaments are intricately woven together. The prophecies in the Old Testament are revealed in the New and the New relies on the Old Testament for much of what we understand about Jesus' teachings.

The OT shows us that we are sinners in need of a Savior. The NT reveals that Savior to be God's Son.
The OT tells what will happen when God's Savior comes so that we'll recognize Him when He does. The NT gospels show that those prophecies were fulfilled by Jesus.
The OT revealed the law of a holy God, and that none has been made righteous through the law. The NT reveals that God found a way to make us all righteous apart from law -- through faith in Jesus Christ (Rom 3).
In the OT, sin appears. In the NT, sin is conquered.
There are many, many themes in the OT that are revealed in greater depth and concluded in the NT.

"the old testament is the new testament concealed and the new testament is the old testament revealed"
Jesus fullfills the old testament prophecies. For example:
Old Testament:
" For a CHILD will be BORN to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty GOD, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6
"Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel (means "GOd is with us")
(Isaiah 7:14)
New testament
"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel"--which means "God is with us" (Matthew 1:21-23

Matthew and Luke make a case for Jesus being a descendant of King David, and therefore eligible to be the Messiah foretold by Isaiah.
