Try light it will be a light brown blondey colour. If not you can always dye it darker.

Dont go straight for the dark like all of these fools say!

Good luck tell me how you get on when you reply after you have picked me as best answer!

Hi no if you go with the light brown it will be lighter any way on the than the brown on the box and wont cover the red.
But if you get a dark brown it will cover the red and it wont be as dark as on the box as it is already light to start off with,
This is what I did when I prelightened mine a few weeks ago. my hair went bright orange and I had a light brown dye ready to re dye over and all it did was make the orange show up more. So I went and got a dark brown in Garnier Nutirsse and it covered all the orange but wasnt as dark as when I had previoiusly use it a few years back.

Also go with ash shades in semi permenants if you can, as ash shades tone down orange. So probably if you where to say get a permanant nice and easy in light ash brown it might work better than going dark. But its all up to you, If you try a light brown and it dont work then you can always dye over it with a dark brown cant you.

If you go to the hairdressers then they will beable to put a colour on it that will be a nice one and tone down the orange till you can even notice it.
I went a few days ago as my hair dye had faded which was a dark brown but bacause it washed out so quickly the orange and other colours where showing through and she dye it for me and its not brilliant.

As a hairdresser, I can tell you this happens a lot. It happens when either your underlying hair pigment is red/orange, or when you've had your hair dyed before. When you try to strip the dark color out, not all of it is removed. So you're left with orange hair! Do not dye it dark brown now unless that's the color you're wanting, okay? Just apply a lighter color that doesn't have the words "warm" or "golden" in the name. That just means you're going to be putting more gold/orange back on top of the orange, and it will get more vivid. If you can, go to Sally's and find a Level 8N, semi permanent or demi permanent color. Mix it with 10 volume developer, also bought at Sally's, leave on 5-15 minutes, until you see the orange is toning down. Since this a toner, you will not need to leave it on as long as the label describes. That will leave it a little darker, but that might be what you want. Be sure to condition your hair frequently and well after all this! Hope it helps.

Try dark brown, but not a really dark one. I had the same problem a few years ago. Just be careful as the dark brown can give your hair a green tinge when over orange. If this happens wash your hair in tomato sauce several times and the green will go away! Trust me xx

Hello this was a silly thing to do.

Im a l'oreal color specialist from ireland i strongly suggest you visit your local salon and have them fix it. this will be costly however you may need a precolor treatment which is not available at home.

if you wanna risk a home job,,, blue neutralises orange so in lay terms you need to use a darker ashen brown to get rid of this orange mess.

Hope this helps
in future just go to the salon because slightly more expensive on the day works out to less hassle less trouble probably less money in the long run and better condition more flattering hair.
and that bit is not cos im in the business its basically common sense

Light brown will not do the trick at all, you need to go with the dark to get even coverage, and this will fade in time. I stopped dying my hair ages ago because I always got that coppery sheen. Honestly, go to the proffesionals, they know what they're doing and they will get it right

Yes the orange may still be visible. Speak to professional hair dresser first before you make any decisions..

I had the same thing happen to me. I used lighter dye after my first experiment went horribly wrong. It went from bad to worse. i would suggest a darker shade without a booster. Or you could just use a Rinse. (not a permanent dye)
