Try talking to your pastor if you are not sure about being a god parent.
Traditionally a god parents role is to help out the child as he grows much as the role of being a parent especially if they pass on.

You cannot be a godparent for a person of a different faith. But you could probably still serve as an official witness and stand up for the child in that capacity, if the Lutheran Church allows this. I'm not certain what the Lutheran viewpoint is on this. I am speaking from the Catholic viewpoint. A non-Catholic cannot be a godparent for a Catholic Child, which only makes sense since the responsibility of a godparent is to assist the parents in bringing up the child in the Catholic faith. But a non-Catholic can serve as an official witness and stand up with the godparent(s) at the baptism.

A God Father Or God Mother is "JUST Being There" When The Baby Is Born......... Religion Has Nothing To Do With It! You may be ask to "Dress" it or the like. You Just Witnessed The Baby"s Birth.

technically no catholics believe a god parent is to guide that person in the faith. I don't see a reason why your husband couldn't do it though. Most people now choose god parents to take the child if something were to happen to the parents and if that's the case you could defiantly contribute.

You have much to contribute just leave religion out of the Mix
if you can have a hand in raising a good upstanding person who will touch the lives of others then Forget about religion and think about the responsability of helping bring a new light to the universe!

Being a God mother doesn't have much to do with religion...Its all about love and care of the baby. These people just want you to be there to help if something should happen to one or the other or both....Love has no religion....

A house divided against itself cannot stand,..you might consider the welfare of your marriage prior to dragging another soul down the road of discord. You and your husband, ideally, according to God's word, should be on ONE ACCORD,...equally yoked,as in, you don't yoke an oxen to an a**,both have obvious differences.
If you don't really care about the boy's spiritual needs & direction, then do whatever is comfortable for you, but,if you "do" care about him, then you should also care about your own situation first. How can you help him,if you can't even help yourself? Come out of your comfort zone,...step out of your boat,...When you & your husband married, you became one . What happened to that??? Or,maybe I should have said, "When you & your husband married, you were "supposed" to have become ONE,...Not, still...TWO.
Let the message here enlighten your mind and your heart,it is NOT intended to bring misery. If you let it seem to come across as belittling you, you'll become agitated & you'll block out any semblance of considering the message,...that would be Satan"s goal for you,to keep you as confused as you already seem to be on the issue, and in your relationship with your husband,..(remember? ...the man you are "one" with?), the last thing Satan would want for you & hubby,is for you to be able to work together,on ONE ACCORD, at "anything!"
Be blessed,Sis, Prayers are extended to you & your's !!!

I don't believe faith has much to do with it. They chose you because if something were to happen to the both of them, they feel that you would be the next in line to take care of the child (if the God Father couldn't take care of the child, of course).

The important thing to remember here is that you are both believers in Christ. Yes you have doctrinal differences, but really does it all matter when taking into account your precious neice?
blessings :)
