You need to see a doctor. Anything to do with nerves and mixed signals should be addressed by a doctor. You will probably not find an accurate solution to your problem, let alone a diagnosis,, on the web.
Nerves are tricky, it could be lubrication problems, your tear ducts, something stuck, trauma, anything. You need to see a doctor, especially if your have other symptoms ESPECIALLY a fever. Swelling might cause pain... swelling could be caused from a number or issues, like infection.
Infection around nerves is dangerous territory (ex: ifyou let an eye infection go, the infection can creep up your nerve to the optic chiasm in your brain (part of a cranial nerve) which results in permanent blindness. However, if an eye infection is treated promptly, vision loss can be avoided.
You need to see a doctor. Play it safe, please.

Not wishing to startle you but I had similar symptoms for about 10 months (give or take a week or two) then in 2001 I had a subrachnoid brain heamorraghe. Not saying you will suffer the same misfortune but take my advice badger your doctor. They probably won't refer you for a CT/MR straight away (unless you foot the bill) but if you complain enough then something has to be done. It might just be some form of eye strain, fatigue or stress or you might booze to much but seek medical advice

it could be an inflammatory symptom brought on by a minor infection that could be located anywhere in your ear nose or throat area. all these areas are linked together. could be stress or eye strain from reading.
so it could be infection related or perhaps its time u got some glasses. professional help will obviously clear the matter up!! all the best

you might be suffering from cluster headaches.
Otherwise you might have a tumour at the back of your eye.
In any case you need to see a Doctor.

it is more likely to be a nerve/brain problem, like cluster headaches or migrain. Go to GP asap

You should see your MD about this. Hard to say what it could be. Did you get something in your eye by any chance?
