I've read that Joseph Smith identified the Egyptian god Amun-Ra as "god".

He did, ahem, 'translate' and Egyptian papyrus into the book of Abraham:

It's a pity that subsequently the French found the Rosetta Stone allowing the papyrus to be translated for real. It bears no relationship at all to the words that Mr Smith used and actually is part of the Egyptian Book of the Dead.

I have never heard that. He may have been referring to the fact that God is God. People may worship him in various ways or call him by different names, yet he is still the God of our earth. He created us, and he loves us.
Obviously there are key differences between Amun-Ra and the true God of this earth, so this must be considered, but I personally believe that God answers the prayers of all people whether they call him Allah, God or whatever other name. It is our quest to find the truth and our willingness to follow what God tells us that we are hear for.

God has revealed his truth through the prophet Joseph Smith, and it is on the earth once more.
