That is, if you can.

Some children marked all over my classroom white board with a permanent marker.

eldad9,
First I find nothing wrong asking for scientific knowledge.

Second, I believe our ability to have scientific knowledge is from God and we should be good stewards of that knowlege.

Third, I find it great that when a Christian is asking a basic "how to" question that a person still finds a way to bash the asker's faith. When the answerer obviously knows very little about the asker's personal convictions.

ethanol.

Pure vodka, like everclear, is how people outside labs get it.
If ethanol does not work, isopropanol (rubbing alchohol) or methanol will do it- one of the three was used as the solvent in the ink originally.

Magic eraser and acetone (nail polish remover) should work, too.

If all else fails, Goo Gone.

To clean ink from a dry-erase board:
Spray on Lysol or Hair Spray and wipe clean.

Or Wipe clean with Huggies Baby Wipes will remove leftover marker stains from your board.

Coca-Cola poured onto a clean rag and wiped across the board will take off permanent marker.

Have a nice day!

Magic Eraser removes permanent marker from a wall. I'd think it'd work on a white board too. Takes a bit of elbow grease though.

Use the white-board markers and start colouring over the permanent marker. The white board marker tip will erase the permanent if you scribble over it enough times.

Good luck.

wd40

CLEANS: WD-40 gets under dirt, marks and grease making it easy to wipe away. It also dissolves adhesives, allowing easy removal of labels, tape, and stickers

PROTECTS: WD-40 protects metal surfaces with corrosion-resistant ingredients to shield against moisture and other corrosive elements

LUBRICATES: WD-40's lubricating ingredients are widely dispersed and hold firmly to all moving parts

PENETRATES: WD-40 loosens rust-to-metal bonds and frees stuck, frozen or rusted metal parts

DISPLACES MOISTURE: Because WD-40 displaces moisture, it quickly dries out electrical systems to eliminate moisture-induced short circuits. Turn the power off before you spray

Any basic cleaner should work (Windex, 409 etc).

White boards are not porous so the ink stays on the surface.

It worked for me.

Well, since your god promised to answer every prayer, you could just pray for it.

It's curious that you turn to scientific knowledge for these problems.
