Well that is a very vague question. It really all depends on the things that you want for your wedding. I can do a backyard reception for as little as 15 bucks a person, but there's not going to be much to it!
If you're looking to save money, you can do an afternoon reception with little sandwiches and champagne. There's also something called a cake and champagne reception with which you serve little hors devourse, and cake...
However, if you're looking to do the traditional evening reception you need to consider things into your cost like renting tables and chairs, possibly a tent, decorations, would you prefer a buffet style meal or for it to be served. All of these things can add costs to your reception. I would think depending on your resources for the reception in a backyard... you could pull it off with anywhere between 1500-5000. (that's being moderate). If you need any help with ideas or ways to save on your budget... please do not hesitate to let me know!! Good Luck!!

I'd guess about $25-35 pp, including drinks...you could go over the top for a whole lot more, but I think that should get you something decent, esp if you do much of the food yourselves.

A caterer around here (CA) will charge about $30+ per head. And that includes tables and chair rentals and service. Alcohol and music are extra.

I'm doing one- our budget is about $7500. We're spending very little on some things and quite a bit on others. I'd say $4,000-$8,000 depending on how fancy you get

That's very vague. Decorations? Bar? Caterer? Band? DJ? Those are things you would take into account.
