Consult a professional. You don't want to end up with some whacky hair color that you are too embarrassed to go out in public. Or worse wind up bald headed. The chemicals in those products are no joke and can do some serious damage if not used correctly. Think about it would you try doing work to your car that you know only a mechanic or licensed automobile technician should? So dig deep and fork over the extra cash to get it done right. You get what you pay for, so if you're using color from the box, expect to get just that. Maybe not the color you want but a color on the box all the same. All the best.

Don't be fooled by the color on the box, it all depends on the person's undertone and hair's condition. Find out what's your undertone. Are you a warm, a cool or a neutral? Also bleaching can damage you hair, if not done right. Hair breakage and unevenness can be the end result, when you bleach/color your own hair. Best thing to do is to go to a salon for a free consultation. Let an expert help you decide what works best on you. You may just have to gloss your hair, instead of having the works done. Trust me, hair will thank you for it :)

Take it from a stylist. Go to the salon. Or at least a beauty school. Red is a difficult color to achieve. If you slap it all over your hair like the box says your roots are going to be a lot lighter and redder than the rest of your hair. If you pre-bleach you need to get the pre-bleach even or the tint-over won't be even. This can turn in to an expensive nightmare for a kitchen beautician. Not to mention the damage it will do to your hair. Cosmetologist go to school for a long time to learn the proper procedures and the procedures you are talking about are difficult.

Please go to a salon & get it done. If you bleach/color your hair as you have mentioned, you could end up with orange hair. If you want a natural, vibrant hair color, let a pro do it. Remember to keep your hair condtioned & your ends trimmed every six weeks. Too frequent shampooing will strip your air of the essential oils it needs, so just use common sense. When getting a retouch on your color, when it's grown out at the scalp a good three or four inches, you do not need to have the color pulled through to the ends each time. That will only dry your hair out even more. I don't color my hair myself & I'm a pro, but it's not easy for me to apply color to the regrowth, so I go to a pro. I only have the color pulled through to the ends, once in a while & my hair is not dry or frizzy. Keep that in mind, so speak up whenever a pro does recolors your hair.

well its not guaranteed to come out exactly. even if you bleach the color out of your hair it could still turn out lighter darker or a different shade than what you want. it just depends on what kind of hair you have and what color. i do know that i have brown hair with just a tiny bit of red in it and i bleached it...then i tried to dye it blonde and my haie turned orange...even though i did it exactly right

I wouldn't do that. Spend the $$$ and have a professional do it. If you're not willing to spend the funds, then I say purchase a booster to put in the dye but, I don't suggest bleaching it then dye it.

You could end up burning all your hair off in the process. If your hair is black now (judging by your avatar), then a red color will take, but you may not be able to see it well indoors. Definitely talk to a colorist.

Careful there, you could end up bald if the two processes are too harsh for your hair type.
Why not spend a bit more and get it done professionally?
