I have just gotten a 14K engagement ring from Wal-Mart....it is a very pretty ring, not very expensive like $250. But I just looked and my finger is turning! I have had numerous gold rings and have never had a problem... what could it be? I hate to tell my fiancee!!!!

2 Things..The gold is either plated, and NOT real. Might be a 14k gold overlay.....
OR
Your allergic to the gold..or even whats under neath the gold.

You have 2 options
Take it back and exchange it, explaining that you had a reaction. Get your money back or get a better ring.

Or take clear nail polish and coat the inside of the ring. It will seal the metal and keep it from rubbing and giving you the reaction.

Good luck!!

Um, well, you could have gotten a 14K gold-PLATED ring. That would be the worst-case scenario. In which case, take it back.

That being said, your body could just have a chemical reaction to the OTHER metals present in the ring - that doesn't mean it's fake or plated. 14K gold is 14 parts gold out of 24 parts - that means it's only a little over half pure. The other 10 parts are made out of a combination of metals including copper, nickel or zinc, in various percentages. I'm guessing if you're turning green, you are having a reaction to the copper or nickel.

That is unfortunate, but unless you wear very pure gold, or gold mixed with less copper/nickel, in the future, you will probably always have this problem.

Believe it or not, some women do have reactions to certain types of gold. The very same thing happened to my friend, for some reason she cannot wear 14 k gold. I would suggest perhaps you let him know and see if Walmart will take it back and try a higher Karat of Gold, if they sell it. If not see if you can get his money back and try a Jewelry store for something different. Just be sure to tell the Jeweler there what happened with the 14k gold ring.

The ring is most likely gold-plated, with probably a nickel-based center. Many people are allergic to it. Read the fine-print that came with it to see if that is what it says. If they claim that the ring is completely 14K gold, then they need to give you a new ring!

It's not pure - it must be plated, or something. Don't worry about telling your fiancee! It's not his fault!
Unless you have suddenly developed a sensitivity of some sort. For me, the green comes from just metal - not gold (have 10k and 14k) nor silver. I can't wear plated rings.

Fingers turn green as a reaction to the nickel contained in base metals. I suspect that your ring is only plated with 14K gold, which will over time wear off. It may be doing that already, starting to expose the base metal underneath..

a) It came from Wal-Mart
b) It isn't entirely real gold

Take it back if you have your receipt. Real gold does not turn your fingers green! Perhaps it is 14K plated and the metal underneath is causing this reaction.

Even 14k gold can cause a reaction. Because it is only 58.5% pure gold. 41.5% is mixed metals, probally nickel, silver, or copper.
Try 18k thats 75% pure gold, 25% mixed metals.
If that fails you have to get your fiance to splurge and get ya some 24K.
999.9 Pure Gold

You had better tell him. I had a a ring like that and it gets worse!! It means it is not the best quality and it won't change anytime soon - trust me. My whole finger turned green before I told him.
I told my guy and he was fascinated about it. He returned it and we went and got another ring.
Try Zales. We got our rings there, they were not overpriced but great quality!

It's called "fool's gold" Your ring might have been plated, but not solid gold. I'd take it back to Walmart and request a credit.
