I think that they are trying to voice an opinion in a calm, peaceful display. I would much rather see this than some violent riot.
That said, I have my opinions about Illegal immigration:
1) I believe that ALL immigrants, regardless of country of origin, skin color, gender, or age should apply for legal citizenship. Many immigrants do this willingly, and go on to be productive citizens. The very fact that we have an application process shows that we, as a country, welcome others.
2) The United States of America does NOT owe illegal immigrants anything. We do not owe them housing, legal tender, employment, healthcare, or even lawful protection. Our country is set up to provide for its citizens. If you want the US to help with any of the above listed items, then you must first become a citizen.
3) ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS ARE CRIMINALS!! The very fact that they are in the country means that they broke the law. One who breaks the law = a criminal.

Now, not all of these issues are the immigrants' fault. The US Federal and State government(s) need to step up to the plate too:
4) Expedite the immigrant application process!! Many immigrants do not even bother trying to apply, because their families need the financial support NOW...not 7 years from now. This is one that lawmakers need to seriously address.
5) Increase the fines and penalties for companies that knowingly hire illegal immigrants. If the companies are too afraid to hire immigrants, then the reason for many of them coming to the US in the first place goes away. Why come if you can't find work?
6) 2 years US military service guarantee’s citizenship for you and your spouse, and all dependents under 23.
7) Government-sanction jobs to 'Fast-track' the citizenship process. You say that immigrants do the work that American's don't want to do? Fine. Allow state governments to place illegal aliens in jobs that are monitored by the government, or a government-approved company. These would include day laborers, landscaping, waste collection, basic construction, or the food service industry. By immigrants taking one of these jobs, they would be given a set wage, and put on a plan that would allow them to receive citizenship after x number of years service in that field.

There are many more ideas or possible solutions for this issue. I would die for this country if needed, and many young men and women are DYING for our rights as citizens each day. I would hope that you do not want their deaths to be in vein. Please understand that I fully support LEGAL immigration. In fact, our country was BUILT by immigrants...

It's a sham.

They are calling for a "path to citizenship". Well, there is one. I know many people who immigrated to America legally and became citizens, as I am sure that anyone who is reading this does also. I know people from at least 25 countries off-hand that came here, legally, and are now citizens.

What they are REALLY saying is that they don't LIKE the current path to citizenship and they want it changed. That's different. They are saying that they really want to come here for the money, and they should be able to stay here because they want to. Well, it just doesn't work that way.

The US's immigration policy is the most open in the world. No other country allows more people to come here to live, not to work for a while, not to go to school here, but become permanant residents and work their way to becoming a citizen. There are more than a few countries around the world that do not allow ANYONE to immigrate, including some of our more socially liberal friends in Europe, such as Sweden. Want to move to Sweden to live? Their government will look at you and go, "Tough bleep" and turn you away.

The whole thing is being clouded by those with an agenda. The laws are there, they just aren't being enforced.

And quit showing me pictures of illegals who have had kids here and now the kids are citizens because of the 14th Amendment, which in my opinion is being very wrongly interpreted in the case of illegals versus the originall intent that all slaves who were born in the US could not be denied citizenship. Don't give me that "The government wants to split up a family." The government didn't make that situation. The parents of the child made that situation. They knew what it meant and they simply did not care about the well-being of that child. Period. They purposely forced that situation, and now I am supposed to feel sorry for them? I don't think so. Want to know what the biggest problem is? It is really had for that US citizen child to get a visa to go BACK to where ever the parents came from in many cases. Mexico is a prime example. A lot of times, they just turn them down hoping that the parents will continue to live here and not be a burden on the Mexican government.

The awful thing is they want t change the US to be like that little piece of paradise south of the border. You know, Mexico, the place everyone wants to get out of because it is so hideous.

Illegals have no rights, they are criminals. They should not be allowed to march anywhere, except back across the border.

Edit. I am a legal immigrant. I paid to get a green card. I spent many years going through the process, all the time paying income tax, FICA, unemployment tax. I resent the idea that illegals should be rewarded for their crime by being given what I was forced to work so hard for. If they get what they want, I should be reimbursed all the cash I had to pay and all the time I spent proving myself. If I had done it illegally I would have been deported and not one left wing activist would have raised a murmur as I am Caucasian.

They are just hurting themselves they are making the AMERICAN voters pissed and it will want us to vote against them being here even more! Congressmen barely listen to us when we want something what makes ILLEGAL aliens think they care what they feel, they aren't voters, Maybe all of us proud LEGAL Americans should protest against illegal immigration! These are the same people who last year were waving mexican flags? what does that tell us? they dont' care about wanting to be American they just want to live here and not be arrested for it, but the illegal way, these are the same people who are so proud to be from mexico with there mexican flags on there cars yet they would rather die then go back to mexico? why don't they protest to there own country? what makes them think they have any right in protesting in a country they aren't even citizens in!!!

Like all rallies that are demanding amnesty for illegals - DISGUSTING! Illegals have no rights. They are not citizens and can't demand anything!

Hopefully the voters will again be pissed and wake up to the fact that we must solve this problem and deport all these people that are breaking the law (AKA criminals).

They are again liars when it comes to turnout. LA stated they had 500,000 - lie. Protesters in Chicago claim they will have 400,000 but the news said they would probably have closer to 7,000.

In Detroit some were carrying Mexican flags! Talk about a slap in the face to Americans.

It's a truly disgusting time in this country. Illegals should not be allowed to protest in this country. I thought the constution guarenteed American citizens the right to protest? Here's an idea, if they want rights, do what a handful have done by getting their citizenship by serving in our armed forces.

I think the label 'immigration' is disingenuous, and I wish the INS would view them as 'opportunities' rather than 'rallies' ... oh, and even other Californians think LA is crazytown.

Why are illegal non-citizens allowed the right to protest and rally at all, but moreso why is it allowed on Loyalty Day?
