I am not gender obsessed or anti-men. I like men. This is not a sexist opinion, merely an observation and I'm asking if you agree or disagree, and why.

Recently I asked 7 questions on the R & S site, looking for positive, uplifting thoughts and experiences. I got some mathematicians to work out the percentages and ratios and these are the results:

Out of 132 answers, 66 were men and 66 were women.
45.45% of men were negative and 54.54% were positive.
18.8% of women were negative and 81.8% of women were positive.
The negative to positive ratio is 5:6 for men and 2:9 for women.

Is this typical? Or do you have evidence to the contrary?

Right away, let me tell you no-one gets a thumbs down from me - I've loved all your answers. However, some were positively delicious - Uncle Thesis, Sybil the Soothsayer, Anna, Kitz and Boudicca (of course).

The raw data can be found by looking at the previous questions on my profile page. The sample size was 132 and men and women responded equally (50:50). Of course, I'm not pretending for an instant that this is either objective or scientific and I wouldn't recognise a standard deviation if my life depended on it. It's just a bit of fun, and we can all use a bit of fun now and again, don't you think?

As this exercise was confined to the R&S site, with equal numbers of men and women participating, it might show that faith/belief affects women in a slightly different way to men. It might cause them to be more optimistic in their outlook. Men, however, might be more inclined to look longer and harder at situations/problems and take a more analytical approach. As faith/belief goes beyond perceived realities, it might be harder for men to express a more trusting attitude. They generally like the security of facts, figures, and solid evidence, whereas women are more comfortable than men in the less tangible areas of relationships and nurturing. Just an idea to throw into the kitty!

It shows that men are more realistic. There's a time for realism and there's a time for optimism. Women might be happier than men but I'd rather be a man and learn the hard karmic lessons in life. Men have greater opportunity for spiritual growth.

Looking at one website is not evidence that the behaviour is typical.

However, I think it depends on the nature of the questions.

If you ask questions that would interest men more than women, you would get more positive answers from men, and vice versa.

I reserve judgement until i can see the raw data that backs this up. Also, what was your sample size and what is the standard deviation?

Here's a little Christian humour, for those who think we don't have any: Adam was a rough draft. In the beginning, God created man...took a good long look at it and said, "Oh I can do better than that..." ;)
(and anyone who takes that seriously needs their head examined!)

Sounds about right, at least on this forum. That is why men need a good woman in their life! We shed a cheerful slant on life for them and they do better, health-wise and in other ways. My grumpy husband needs me very much!

Well Princess, you seem to have done your homework.
Even without your calculations, I'd be prone to say men are more negative.
They are also fast to criticize and ridicule.
Men have something to learn from women.
