type one % in one box and the other in another box right beneath the first. highlight the box beneath that and click on the drop down menu on the weird looking E on your toolbar. Then choose your function.. sum (add), subtract. when you choose the function, it should highlight the above boxes and just hit enter.
I noticed the other responses are showing how to calculate within the same box. Mine is outlining how to show everything, like if you're making a report and need to show all the percentages and then the totals. You can email me if it's not clear. It is a lot of jibber jabber.

When doing any sort of mathematical function in Excel it is crucial to put the = sign at the beginning of the equation. It is the only way the progam will recognize that you are trying to do an equation. Secondly, rather than entering the values that you want caluculated manually (especially if thir are numerous values) you can click on the cells you want calculated and it will be included in the equation. For example:
=A1 +B3 or

=(A1+A2+A3)/B3

This will make the process very easy.

If you want to do a formula (even something as basic as adding or subtracting), you must type the equals sign "=" first. So, 1 + 1 would be typed =1+1.

This is Excel's way of determining "ah yes, this is a equation."

Excel can not do math if the numbers have a % sign behind them. They will be treats as text, not numbers (since % is not a number)

Remove the percent signs and do the math. Puit the percent sign in the next cell to the right of the numbers so it displays behind them, and people can read it as a percentage, but Excel will still see it as a number.

Hope that is what you are asking....

the formula is the same as a normal formula for adding or subtracting.

=cell1-cell2

Remeber a % is really a decimal so 50% = .5, 25% =.25, etc..

Be more specific what do you have in cell 1 and cell 2?

type in cell (with equal sign first)

=.678-.342

(like 67.8%-34.2%, whatever your percantages are)

then right click on the cell and go to format cells, click on the number tab and choose percentage.....this should do it for ya.
