"The bible also says "Test Everything". Do you disagree with that?"
No of course not. Every book will have one thing I agree with in it I would think. thanks for your 'random' propaganda filled quote and answer though. x

More propaganda...
"Jesus taught us to love thy neighbor, turn the other cheek, love your enemies and seek ye first the kingdom of God.
What is the harm in living that way?"
Obviously NOTHING, but you have simply pulled one little bit of verse out. I could pull a nice bit of text out of any book you give me! That is not the question anyway and you know it. ANSWER THE QUESTION!

mrs sexy_ I am asking peoples views. I am hoping someone might convinve me that going off ONE book to live your whole life on might be a little 'blinkered' It's like getting ONE quote for someone to fix your washing machine if you get my meaning. It makes sense to look at all side and all angles instead of just assuming you are right because the 'bible says it'

"Let me ask you. What way to think is this. The science book says it, so it must be true. How do you KNOW that the science book is right?"
OK, science updates itself and admits it is wrong if it is-religion doesn't! There are many many scientists all proving one theory-would they all lie?Think of their motivation to do this? Not saying they couldn'e but really? religion just says THAT IS THAT-NO DISCUSSION. This is arrogant! Can you imagine having a discussion with someone like that? Like now, you ask me a question so I am willing to talk it over!

ha ha! Are you joking! SO if I write a book on how you owe me $1000000 it has to be true! What basis is this for the truth-becasue it says it is. Proves my point EXACTLY

It is science and theories get updated and dis proved all the time. You are so boring. You treat it like US AND THEM you religious people, it is so childish. If you tell me my theory is wrong or prove me wrong I thank you! Not say No NO NO I am right!! CAN YOU NOT SEE THAT!!! When does an atheist or scientist childishly try to keep hold of his ideas on a subject when proved wrong? None that I know of.

**YOU WOULDNT BE SATISFIED NO MATTER WHAT ANSWER WAS GIVEN. YOU ARE PART OF THE GROWING POPULATION OF PROBLEM STARTERS THAT HAVE FLOODED YAHOO! ANSWERS. YOU ARE LEAVING OUT A SMALL LITTLE THING CALLED FAITH. FAITH IS THE BASIS OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH. WE DO NOT BELIEVE THAT JESUS IS THE SAIVOUR OF MANKIND JUST BECAUSE THE BIBLE SAYS SO, WE BELIEVE THAT BECAUSE OF OUR FAITH IN HIM. WE LEARNED ABOUT HIM THROUGH THE BIBLE, BUT WE GREW AND LOVE HIM BY OUR FAITH.
AND ON TO YOUR SECOND QUESTION. THE VIRGIN BIRTH HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED BY THE VIEWERS OF IT, HENCE MATTHEW, MARK, LUKE. WALKING ON WATER WAS DOCUMENTED BY PETER, PAUL AND COULD BE BACKED UP BY THE OTHERS ON THE BOAT AT THE TIME. THESE NON-BIBLICAL DOCUMENTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND, BUT YOU CAN FIND A LETTER OR AN ACCOUNT OF A CENTURION THAT HEARD OF THE VIRGIN BIRTH AND WAS AFRAID WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN. THESE ARE NOT CANON, SO THEY ARE NOT POPULAR, BUT THEY ARE FROM THE SAME TIME PERIOD. SO THERE IS SOME "LOOSE" EVIDENCE OF A VIRGIN BIRTH. THE MIRACLES WERE DOCUMENTED BY MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE.....MAYBE YOU HAVE HEARD OF THE APOCRYPHA. THERE IS ALWAYS SOME SORT OF EVIDENCE, BEIT MATERIAL OR SPIRITUAL. YOU CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE SPIRITUAL BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT BECOME ONE OF HIS.
common sense, reason, and logic is the basis of the Bible....whoever you talked to about the Bible is apparently and ignorant fool. Everything in the Bible can be backed up with physical evidence. There is nothing conflicting in the Bible with natural history nor is their anything in there that will not happen...I dare you to try and prove me wrong.

There's an old Chinese proverb that says 'A little knowledge is dangerous' and I believe this holds true especially for matters concerning religion. I was baptised some 30 years ago have always read the scriptures with an open, inquisitive mind that genuinely seeks God's wisdom instead of just parotting whatever the church wants me to believe. I was particularly suspicious of John 3:16. I mean, it is beyond my compassion and conscience to think that people who do not know or accept Jesus would deserve to end up in hell. There are so many good people of other faiths who can put to shame how some Christians live their lives. Later I discovered that 3:16 is just John's personal view, and the book of John was not even written during Jesus' time on earth. And then I discovered that ALL the four gospels were not written during Jesus' time on earth as well! Then I learned about how the 66 books were chosen among hundreds (or thousands?) of so-called scriptures - by mortal beings like you and I - and they decided that the 66 books that they picked should be compiled into what we call the Bible. My church pastor proclaims that this book is 'the breath of God', and a Christian should believe in it through blind faith. In other words, to be a 'true' Christian, I am not encouraged to have a conscience or use logic, reason and common sense even though I genuinely want to seek the truth. To the church elders, to analize too much is to invite the devil to tempt us away from God! This myopic and narrow view of religion is the stuff that creates wars and religious fanatics. Do not allow yourself to be confined within this invisible cage. If you live by a good conscience and believe in a forgiving God, it doesn't matter by what name you call your religion.

What is known to be true is what you learned and understand in every word printed in the Bible. If you do not know what to pick up as reasonable, how can common sense and logic be helpful to your personal growth when you haven't got the right way to read it.
I read the Bible from the very beginning, I have seen and understood how that Adam and Eve were NOT the first persons on earth and that is obviously written which almost the world did not see. If you think that people live and think the way you said it, maybe you just have forgetten that most people did not really read it but just listened to what the "unlearned" teachers have been telling them.
The Bible is not really an easy and enjoyable reading. That is why it had been so easy for the deceivers to misinform and manipulate the mind of the ignorants. Those who read and loudly express their wrong understandings are the ones who caters to the lazy, non-thinking, narrow minded, irrational and dangerously unintelligent living beings. I can tell you only one out every 30 persons who read the Bible, really have read it from the very beginning word for word and oftentimes none of them could really understand fully the messages written.

The bible is full of knowledge. Plain and simple. You might not need a parable to understand why murder is wrong, but there are a ton of stories and anecdotes in there that have been collected for thousands of years. Even though those were the old days, the lessons about life collected in the Bible are universal and timeless. Society, in general, would be alot better off if more people referred to the Bible when making decisions, rather then just going with what other people say. This doesn't go along with every single thing contained in the book, and remember, logic, common sense and reason doesn't always lead to the "correct" answer.

Let me ask you. What way to think is this. The science book says it, so it must be true. How do you KNOW that the science book is right? Can you actually prove it for yourself or do you rely on someone you don't know, who may have an agenda to tell you things which you believe because he says he is a scientist? Can you use your own logic to decide? Or do you rely on someone else to do your thinking?
Do you believe in the general theory of relativity? Do you understand it? If not, how can you be sure that it is right?
Edit, scientists do not always admit they are wrong. Fred Hoyle never let go of the steady state theory. The Russian academy of science fought the big bang for decades because it smacked too much of divine intervention. And the atheist's hero Dawkins commits a cardinal sin in science of starting with a theory and using only the facts that support his theory, discounting anything else as 'unproved' or questioning the veracity of the findings. This is a non thinking, narrow minded, irrational, deluded, dangerous, unintelligent way to live and think

Religion is kind of like drving down the street. Even though you don't KNOW the car in the oncoming lane will stay on it's side, you trust that it will and drive anyway. Just like you don't KNOW God exists, but many people believe. The bible is based on fact by the way. It is interpretations of what people throughout history have witnessed. Is it all true? Certainly not. But much of it is. Also writing styles and meanings have changed significantly over hsitory. Some meanings are misinterpreted and there are more than a few misrepresentations throughout the many translations of the bible. So in short, not all of the bible is right and people who take it literally are doing so out of faith, not stupidity.

Your question suggests you have found a point in your travels where you are unfamiliar with the area. For Example, You see many routes which will take you somewhere, only you have no idea where because you don't recognize the language on the sign posts.
You choice is simple, focus on what you have been taught and go back to where you feel comfortable and life is familiar. You know, "The way you came". Or go forward, in one direction or another, and explore.
Learn from your journeys and the words you understand will help you make sense of what you encounter when you are exploring.
See you! Indiana.
I would have liked to have learn the language on the sign posts ahead, in my case, first.

I'm sorry, I'm failing to understand your question. ?? Are you saying that people who follow the Bible are "non thinking, narrow minded, irrational, deluded, dangerous, unintelligent & lack reason, common sense & logic?" Cause if you are, you're going to have to give an example ... Why would you be so "non thinking, narrow minded, irrational, deluded, dangerous, unintelligent & lacking reason, common sense & logic" by making such a comment ... if that's what I'm understanding by your question?

Science says that dark matter, dark energy, string theory and quantum mechanics are all true. And they all go against reason, common sense, logic AND sanity.
How do I reconcile the idea that the people in lab coats tell me the insane ideas about the nature of the universe are all true and yet that I'm irrational and deluded for thinking someone came back from the dead 2,000 years ago?
