I hear you! I am going through something similar. I have 2 kids. I lost all ofmy baby weight but age and lack of excersise are catching up quick. I am at my post baby weight that I was at 8 years ago! I have packed on at least 15 lbs that I DO NOT want.
I have given up on dieting. I like to eat and I am just kidding myself if I think I'm going to slim down that way.
I have been working out for 2 1/2 weeks now. I have only lost 1 pound and it can be a bit frustrating.
I have some friends who were VERY overweight and lost all of the extra weight and here is what they have told me:
Be realistic and patient (not easy , I know...I feel like giving up sometimes too because I want to see fast results for all of my hard work)
Don't beat yourself up over what you eat. If you eat something that makes you feel guilty ,go for a half hour walk.
Don't go crazy with the working out. The faster it comes off ,the more likely you are to gain it back.
Muscle weighs more than fat so if you are pumping weights , keep that in mind.I need to focuse on losing my unwanted pounds and THEN tone it up.
I have Tony Little's Gazelle and I try to do it everyday.Sometimes I just do 1 mile and other times , like today , I do 10 miles. Just go at your own pace.As long as you're doing SOMETHING!!!!
Sometimes I do Pilates.....GREAT for the abs. It kicks my butt but I feel like I'm in better shape right after I do them.
I hope this helps a little bit. It isn't much , but it's the advice I've been following. Even though you and I aren't seeing results yet ,doesn't it make you feel good that you are making the effort to lose the weight? That's what I keep telling myself everytime I get upset about how I look "At least you're working on it"
Good luck :)

I will try to keep it simple. Your metabolism is basically the rate at which your body burns calories to create energy. So the faster your metabolism, the faster you burn calories and the easier it is to lose unwanted weight. To boost your metabolism naturally you just need to eat the right foods.
You can sit down and literally eat a 1,000-calorie dinner and yet be absolutely starving just a few hours later and the reason is simple: Because your body didnt get what it needed in those 1,000 calories so it sends signals to your brain telling you to ingest more calories and thus, the late-night cravings. That means that the surest way to end those late-night cravings and keep your weight loss goals on track is to eat a more balanced, nutritious diet that actually gives your body what it needs.
It's VERY EASY to lose weight if you eat the right foods. Check out Dr. Charles Livingston's video here: http://www.sexyjese.com - it will blow your mind.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

One thing that helped me was a book called 'The Paleo Diet'. I too had a difficult time figuring out how to eat 'right'. But this book gives many meal ideas as well as some recipes.
Good luck to you!

give your protein extra low calorie flavor by adding a salsa or chutney instead of a gooey cream sauce
