I don't believe that any woman should have to cover her head for any reason. Woman are just as important as men. And no I'm not some girl power fighter, I just believe that we should be treated with respect, and if someone tells me to cover my face, well that is disrespectful to me. I am a proud woman, and deserve to be free just as well as any man does.

1 Corinthians 11:3-16 addresses the issue of women and head coverings. The context of the entire passage of 1 Corinthians 11:3-16 is submission to the God-given order and "chain of command." A "covering" on a woman's head is used as an illustration of the order, headship, and the authority of God. The key verse of this passage is 1 Corinthians 11:3 "But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God." The implications of this verse are found in the rest of the passage. The order is: God the Father, God the Son, the man or husband, and the woman or wife. The veil or covering on the head of a believing Corinthian wife showed that she was under the authority of her husband, and therefore under submission to God.
In today's culture, we no longer view a woman's wearing of a head covering as a sign of submission. In most modern societies, scarves and hats are fashion accessories. A woman has the choice to wear a head covering if she views it as a sign of her submission to the authority of her husband. However, it is a personal choice and not something that should be used to judge spirituality. The real issue here is the heart attitude of obedience to God's authority and submission to His established order as "unto the LORD." God is far more concerned with an attitude of submission, than an outward display of submission via a head covering. 1 Timothy 2:9-10, "I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God."

I can see by the responses that a lot of folks don't understand the reason behind covering a woman's head.
We women tend to get pretty involved in our hair.
Sit and watch TV at any given time. More than half the commercials you see will be about hair care products. Shampoos. Hair loss remedies. Styling products.
Covering one's head is about giving up being self-absorbed for a few minutes and praying.
I started wearing snoods. Little crochetted nets to hold the length of my hair. I'm so amazed how more quickly I can get ready in the morning with my snood. As opposed to handfuls of hair product, blow dryers and curling irons.

Women of all religions should do whatever they feel is appropriate. Covering the head is common in the big religions: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism.
I don't think there is any reason that a woman should be required to cover her head. It's a personal decision between her and her deity/ies.

My God isn't concerned about whether my head is covered or not. Praying to God, chatting with God...............I just do not need to dress any particular way to do it. Dressing certain ways would make me think that I was playing 'to' an audience. I am not. When God and I talk, it is just between the two of us.

Really stupid, barbaric practice left over from nomadic tribesmen who were afraid of neighboring tribes, so they hid their women by covering them up---just like the males. Then somehow it got twisted eons back into some type of relgiious practice. Humans are often really stupid when it comes to common sense!

Yes, because then we'd be able to tell the religious fanatics from the normal women.
