Pot and Hemp are versions of Cannabis. The difference for the US is one is illegal and the other marginal legal. There-in lies the underlying effects on the environment.

Legal Hemp and Medicinal "Pot" farms aren't damaging to the environment any more than other farming. In many instances, the use of hemp fiber instead of wood pulp is much better for the environment.

Illegal Pot farms, are a different story. The pursuit of illegal profits rides roughshod over any environmental concerns often creating a massive fertilizer and pesticide problem in their wake.

Here's a recent article in the San Francisco News about a farm http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/09/06/POTFARMS.TMP

on the contrary it releases nitrogen into the soil and breaks up compacted ground with its deep roots ,and it grows under a great variety of conditions, requiring little irregation.

,a very effective remedy for recovering tired or destroyed soil from modern agriculture is to plant hemp

What is bad for the Environment is the war on pot ,
the army sprays herbicides that in Mexico have killed cows ,fish and trees and the ocasional person .contaminating rivers and soils for years to come .last year our river was full of dead fish ,and many dead dogs and donkeys and horses on the edges ,because the army had washed their containers in the river ,

when we complained all we recieved was threats and denial from the government

does this justify itself for a plant that was outlawed in the first place because the fibre competed with the synthetic industry which is owned by the groups that control the govenment ,

beer and liquer(which IS owned by them) kills far more people than jeans, ropes or joints do .

what kills the most is greed and ignorence
