I discussed my personal issues with family members (cousin, aunt and parents). I have stopped recently because I don't want to keep complaining. I have heard that complaining just gets you attention from people.

Does anyone agree?

Also, how much should I listen to my parents and other's advice? I know its my life, but I sometimes give their words too much importance.

I have to be strong and think with my own mind.

I think that you should take into consideration that they are not you nor are they in the situation . so therefore you need to follow your gut!! it is always good to have someone just listen to you when you need to vent! hopefully this helps :D

Its wise to allow others to know what's going on in your life.
If they know nothing about you or your life, how will they know who you are, who youre with, what youre doing, etc.
Imagine a person who keeps everything to themselves...that person disappears....if the police ask what did you know about that person, their lifestyle, their friends, bf, etc. how can anyone hope to locate you or what might have happened? If you had a husband that beat you and your friends, family didnt know...how can anyone help you?
that's just an example, but, you should always communicate with the people that love you and care about you. if only for those type of reasons. support and encouragement from friends and family and their concerns are necessary. dont alienate yourself. you dont have to go into detail with them, however, some things should be shared! take advice and use it to guide you..its not meant to hurt you or be the ultimate decision. you do need strength to do those things that you need to do...strong means you taking action, not them holding your hand. :)

You should be able to talk things over with your family. But if you do, you need to be prepared to listen to, and evaluate, their advice. You don't have to always follow it, but you do have to take it seriously.

Talking it over once is talking things over. If you don't try to solve the problem though, it's just complaining to keep bringing it up, and you shouldn't burden them with that.

You should be able to go to your family if you have problems they are your support system. However, if you are complaining about every little thing it could get irritating. If they are'nt saying anything to you about how much you complain then I wouldn't worry about it.
