First: they learn how to read the guiding, holy books and sutra since these may be difficult. After that they learn how to pray since you have to control your mind when you're praying. Then they learn how to meditate. High level monks may learn how to preach in the mass. Depend on the monastery size, festivals and other activities may take place.
