My son is 4 and is currently on the Daytrana patch. I don't like it but our options are limited because he cant swallow a pill. It works well while he's on it. We have tried focalin because you can break open the pills and put the sprinkles into pudding. Focalin did nothing for my son and this patch is giving him some nasty side effects while the medicine is wearing off. Another option is Adderall because you can break open those pills as well. I just want info from someone who has had personal experiences with this drug and their child. All info is appreciated!

My son was officially diagnosed with ADHD by a child psychologist as well as his doctor. I trust my doctors diagnosis. I saw her as a child and she has always done an amazing job. So, yes he does in fact have ADHD.

Although my son is older he also was on adderall and he and i both liked it. He started on a lower dose when he was 7 now i is on a time release of it 30mg. Yes he have an appetite problem he must eat before he takes it and have to eat as soon as it start to wear off. He do not take it on the weekend (not by Dr's order) but i can handle some behaviors one on one better then the teachers. The best thing is having a Dr that actually care and i had that with DR Harry Manser

My grandson was taking that for a while.
Doctors said that he could use it during the school week and then take him off for the weekend because it was making him listless (in a way). So we tried that and the poor kid would be throwing up the whole weekend. So we took him off everything, against the schools wishes. We finally got a teacher and a school psychologist to test him and found out that the kid acted out in school because he has a high IQ,knew all the answers He tested out in the 1% in the country for high school seniors @at the age of 9 !
I am not going to say that we didn't continue to have some behavioral problems but as time is going by he acts more and more like a normal kid who is now 13.
Your little one has diagnosed ADHD? Please, if you haven't done it yet, get a second , third and fourth opinion. Our society has become too quick to judge our children. It's easier to drug them rather then deal with them.
Oh I know I will take some flack from teachers who say they have to many children to deal with in their class but I remember being in school -- teachers had 30 -40 kids per class and not a teachers aide to help them! Trust me kids are kids , no matter what generation.

My husband and my friend's son were both taking Adderall and both of them had violent episodes, my friend's son attacked her and my husband punched me. Both of them were later found to have Bipolar Disorder instead of ADHD which was their original diagnosis. Both of them were incredibly productive while on it and both are very smart but when they got depressed and a little angry, they exploded. Adderall works wonders with people with ADHD, as long as it is actually ADHD. I don't want tp scare you off of an effective treatment for your son but I do think that people should know that Adderall can cause psychosis as a side effect (it is my belief that it does that more often in teenage and adult males).

My daughter took adderall for a while. She went from hanging from the ceiling fans and unable o concentrate enough to do ANY school work, to sitting and doing 6 weeks' worth of math work in an hour!!! ADHD children ARE VERY BRIGHT!!!
Something else that worked for her though that you may want to try...give him a coca cola or other soda instead of his pill one day. Adderall, Ritalin, all of those pills are nothing but stimulants. When a child is unmedicated at school, believe it or not, this is what most teachers will do to help them. I used to volunteer in ESE classes and saw it work MANY times for myself!

if your son has suggested that he desires to kill himself, then this is a few thing that would desire to be suggested to his physician good away. Suicidal ideation is a edge results of a few drugs--or this is an illustration that his dosages nevertheless are not extremely good. Does your son see a therapist? this is possibly a sturdy thought so which you will get him in to confirm a counselor for this and his temper/anger themes. keep in close touch with this instructor so as that any unusual habit or comments may be pronounced with the therapist. each and all of the ultimate to you.
