My tailbone is killing me, but I didn't fall on it or anything. I recently had a long car ride, and after it I noticed the spot where I was sitting (my tailbone) was very sore. It is definitely the tip of the bone that feels sore. I figured it would go away but seems to be getting worse the more I sit on it. Is this a bruised tailbone, even though there was not blunt force? Or is it something else?

this type of pain happens to many people in long car rides. The movement of the car forces your muscles to constantly be moving. So it's like you've over exercised the muscles in the buttocks. When these muscles are strained they pull on the tailbone. That's why you feel so much pain.

The best treatment for this is to see a chiropractor immediately. You will come out of the treatment feeling much better. I've enclosed a link where you can find a chiropractor in your area.

My other suggestion is to take a hot bath for 30 minutes with 2c. of Epsom salts to help relieve the pain.

It could be a pilodinal cyst starting to form. That's exactly what mine felt like when it started. I could have swore it was my tailbone for days. It eventually turned into a huge cyst (these kind ONLY form over the end of your tailbone) and I had to have it lanced at least 10 times, but it kept coming back. I eventually had to have surgery to remove the core. 3 weeks on the couch (laying on my side) and 15 stitches in my buttcrack!!!

Sorry to scare you, but if you didn't fall on it, that's probably what it is. The first time I noticed it was after a long car ride too.

Probably a pressure sore. Its not your tailbone, but the tissues between your tailbone and skin that are damaged. You have to stay off them to let them heal.

Could be a pilonidal cyst. Your symptoms sound JUST like mine did. Couldn't figure out what I had done to my tailbone. Turned out to be a cyst and I had to have it surgically removed. Hope these links help you decide what is going on.
