It is a cult wellknown in North India.There is a word in Hindu religious text "Prajaapathi"-I think they were 4 ,from whom the Human race is supposed to have been created..One is Daksh Prajapathi.he wasthe father of Sati the consort of lord Siva.It is not known,how these people(cult) coined the word Prajapita=(means) father of (all) people.Brahma is the creator-there appears to be no Textual reference,where He is addressed as Prajapita.Brahma is often refered to as "Virinji"-Kumaris means =his daughters.There appears to be no authentic Hindu Religious texts that Brahma had many daughters. There are authentic references about his sons.It appears the person who very recently satrted this cult coined the word "Prajapita Brahma Kumaris"

I haven't heard much about them so I don't know how cult like they are. They don't seem to be too crazy like some organizations (like the Harri Krishna's). I'm not sure how I feel about that Prajapita Brahma guy though.
If you are thinking about joining them, I wouldn't until you got to know them better. you can probably read there texts, go to meetings and retreats but if you ever feel uncomfortable then i would definitely advise you not to continue on and join them.
Definitetly do some more reseach and even contact your local universities religion department, they will be more than willing to answer any questions you have.
