Although most will cetrainly disagree, I think that one of the most overrated drivers is Tony Stewart. If you like the whole whiny cry baby, I can crash whoever I want when I want and if someone looks at me wrong I'll cry on tv about how bad that guys sucks, conspiracy theorist with a psycho's attitude then he's great, but if you consider the fact that he is in some of the best equipment available it seems like a better driver would not wreck everyone around him take that wonderful car he has EVERY week and win more.

david g DID NOT say Mark Martin on purpose. He happens to be one of the most consistent drivers of all time. Anyway, it's hard to pick 25 as there are only 43 drivers each week however here are my personal opinions also nascar.com has the top 50 drivers of all time who are consistent each week (by the way Mark Martin is on that list). I personally do not like Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, or Dale Jr. but they are great drivers.
1. Michael Waltrip
2. Kurt Busch
3. Ryan Newman
4. Kyle Petty
5. Jeremy Mayfield

^ You think Yeley is over rated?? Seriously?? He may not be used to stocks quite yet (he is getting there, and he has 3 career top-10s), but he is only the second driver to win the Triple Crown (USAC). OnlyTony Stewart has also accomplished this feat!
My 12:
1. Jeremy Mayfield
2. Michael Waltrip
3. Sterling Marlin (10 wins in 720 starts!)
4. Dave Blaney
5. Ryan Newman
6. Joe Nemechek ('Front Row Joe', please! The man has only won 9 poles in 14 years!)
7. Jeff Green
8. David Gilliland
9. Erin Crocker
10. David Ragan
11. Paul Tracy
12. Danica Patrick
They are numbered to keep track, not ranked.
Some UNDERRATED drivers, IMO:
Mears, Sadler, Yeley, McMurray, Stremme, Sorenson, Almirola, Vickers, Bowyer, Mike Bliss, Johnny Benson, O'Quinn, .....

You can not rate "drivers" as being over-rated or under-rated.
Juan Montoya is perhaps the single most talented NASCAR driver. But, does he drive for Hendricks Motorsports? No.
Chevrolet is dominating Ford and Dodge, and Toyota is having miserable problems. David Reutimann is a very talented driver, but is his team (Michael Waltrip) better than Jimmy Johnson's team (Hendricks Motor Sports)? The answer is no. Does Toyota have it together as much as Chevrolet? No.
The fact is you CAN NOT rate drivers as being over or under rated. Racing success is a team effort that includes the make of car, the experience and quality of crew chief, the pit crew, the sponsor money, and many intangibles.
How many races would Dale Earnhardt Jr. have won already this year if he drove for Hendricks Motor Sports?
Would Jeff Gordon be leading in points if he drove a Toyota this year for Red Bull or Michael Waltrip?
In terms of pure talent, Juan Montoya is "underrated". Anybody who saw him go from 21st to winner's circle in Mexico City, and who saw him race in Formula 1 knows the talent level of Montoya.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the most popular driver (backed by a "sea of red" of obnoxious slobs, retards who throw debris and hate all other racers), but is not having success on the track. Is this due to him being a poor driver, or the make Chevrolet, or Budweiser not fronting enough $$$, or a bad crew chief, or bad pit crew, or what???
J.J. Yeley got taken out in the first lap at Phoenix by that bonehead David Ragan. Did this make J.J. Yeley a "bad driver"? David Reutimann had a chance to win at Talledega, running fifth and looking good when his engine blew up. Did this make him a "bad driver"?
It is impossible to rate drivers. The only way to rate them would be if each car were clones and all the supporting cast were clones.
