For a debate on scriptures. Do I go directly to the church or are there things I need to do before I am allowed in the Catholic church?

Any info would be great, but only answer if you can help otherwise it'd just be pointless!

thanks

My old Catholic church used to let anyone in, people didn't have to be particularly religious just respectful, and not to take communion unless they were allowed to.

You'll find that most of them are fairly intelligent and up for a chat, we liked one of our old priests so much we had him round for dinner once. I wish I was agnostic then because we could have had a good argument.

Go to a service and see how you like his sermons and if he is the kind of person you'd like to talk with, and then try and find him after the service. The preists in my old parish used to say good bye to everyone as they left the church, you could arrange a meeting quickly then. Or offer to help after service with tidying up or counting the collection. Talk to him then.

You call the church or office where the priest works and make an appointment. Easy as pie.

If I might suggest, find a priest who teaches theology at a local college. You'll be much more likely to get a decent response that way. In my experience, some parish priests are great at being pastors but not as great on the teaching aspect.

Call the parish office and ask to speak to a priest.

I don't think you need use the word 'debate' on scripture. Just say you are interested in learning more about the church and would like some questions answered as part of your inquiry. There is no need to be confrontational about it if you have a genuine interest.

Father may refer you to another staff member who is versed in apologetics. My pastor does. He usually sits in with me and the person because he enjoys the interaction. It's not that he can't do it- but it is part of my job as religious education coordinator.

You can attend Mass as a non-Cahtolic, but you cannot receive Communion.

You call his office and make an appointment. It's pointless to debate the scriptures with a priest, you're not gonna change his mind and you're not gonna change the Catholic Church. If you want to have explanation on Catholic beleives he will give them to you with pleasure

If you are not part of their parish, most likely they won't let you.

However, if it were me, I'd probably word a little differently so as to not put the poor guy on alert.

Debate is a good thing, but many people are unable to do it effectively because they can't separate their beliefs from their own selves and not perceive it as a personal attack.

Try to find a Catholic Priest outside of the church setting who would be willing to "engage you in discourse."

Yes...just go in the church and ask to speak with a priest, the churches are open to all and you need not be Catholic or baptized or anything to go in one. If he is not there I am sure they will schedule an appointment. Do not expect to win the debate.

Priests lead very busy lives and seldom can just sit down and debate the Scriptures.

I suggest you call the parish office and make an appointment.

If you want a better challenge then contact your local Catholic college or university and make an appointment with a real biblical scholar.

With love in Christ.

Anyone is allowed into a church or its not a church worth going to. I will say find a younger priest, they are more open to questions. If one isn't willing to answer your questions, go to another church. Seeking answers takes work.

Normally, anyone who wishes to speak to a Catholic priest would call their office and set up an appointment. That's how my parish works.
