The more I look, the more disturbing information I find out about the LDS Church. I just learned that people in the temple had to make covenants to be violently killed by God if they revealed the temple signs and tokens. This one really is true. It's not just a lie.

Why would God EVER want His children to do that? What justification could you give to say that this practice is holy? Jesus himself even said not to swear by your own head (life)!! This seems like the most unholy practice for any church to practice, let alone one that says it's the only true church. Is it possible that this was an apostasy that happened and that it was later corrected?

Did Joseph Smith start this or was it added later? Can anyone please give me information about where this started? I really NEED to know. Thank you.

EDIT: I have been through the temple, but it was after 1990 when they changed it to be less violent. I have been a longtime member of the Church that never questioned anything about it until I started seeing things like this. In my mind, I really don't want to leave the Church. All my friends and family are in the Church. But in my heart, I can't feel good about supporting a Church that required such unholy practices at the hands of its members. I really don't know what to do.

They were necessary at the time. There were no interviews to test someone's worthiness to go to the temple. Do you not remember how many people got mad at teachings of Joseph Smith? Many were leaving the church and becoming strong adversaries against the church. These oaths are the most serious ever made on earth, therefore, these penalties were necessary then. Now, the saints' lives are not as threatened, these penalties are no longer needed in the ceremony. These penalties were symbolic anyway. They represented what they would rather have done to them than to divulge what they had covenented to. They never taught that they would kill anyone by those means. Also there were none killed by those means. They were symbolic only.

I doubt the NCAA will ever supply a loss of life penalty returned like they did to SMU. i don't think of they knew how badly it could effect a as quickly as super software. As for USC, is there even a severe examine happening? The NCAA isn't almost as aggressive as they have been, surprisingly with vast-time classes and vast time activities. they are greater possibly to check out small classes that don't combat returned as lots.

You are on the right tract. When something comes against what you feel is right, when you have the bible to go by. Step back and examine it very closely.

I have seen you have answers about not swearing an oath these are true.

Personally I have been around a few LDS and I have been very convinced these are nice people. I had seen other things, the foundation of that church, to go against the Bible, king james version. I did not pursue them any further.

It sounds very secretive, the work of the lord is of no private interpretation. I'm wondering what the signs and tokens are. If they are anything similar to that of the Catholic church then that's something that goes all the way back to ancient Babylon. (The beginning of Satanic worship) I had seen similar things with the LDS that did remind me of the Catholics. Catholics are pagan in sheep's clothing. And the founders of the catholic church, the people in control claim to infiltrated every organized religion in the world.

The bible says in Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

I have heard things like that... only what has come from ex-mormons or anti-mormons, none of my family had ever said anything about that. Honestly, it doesn't bother me. I think some member take too lightly the covenants we make in the temple, I know that they are sacred to God and that by us braking those covenants or "revealing" their sacred nature, that is a slap in the face to God. I think He will not have revenge, but hold us accountable for mocking him, that will not go unnoticed.
What we should focus on is keeping those covenants, strengthening our testimonies and being as Christ-like as we can...

If you are looking for excuses to leave the Church you will find them. Regardless of the misconceptions, myths, and deceiving mistruths, the foundation of the Church, the Book of Mormon, is true and Joseph Smith, Jr., had been called of God to translate it into English.

Why are you allowing such distrust enter your mind when you know Satan is behind all this? It will never get easier for us because of all the insidious lies spread through those he influences. Ignore them and get back to the meetings!

If this is true it could possibly be to scare people, God drowned everyone I am sure he is cabable of instilling fear in people. Again if everything was perfect and everything made sense then everyone would be as wise and all knowing as God, I am just waiting till the end to know all the truths. You can't expect to have all the answers on Earth. Being killed by God sounds better then going to hell, I mean that is scary.

Some things to consider -

- as you know everything in the temple is symbolic. Like all ordinances (including sacrament, baptism) in the church physical actions are done to symbolically represent spiritual realities. I have only participated in the temple post 1990 as well, but it is my understanding that they were done, and yes they are only published by "anti" people who will only display it in it's basic litteral form, and ignore all posible symbolic meanings. I think these people would describe baptism as a father holding their kids under water if you know what I mean.

We are still very much told that we will be spiritually held responsible for keeping our covenants - when you consider how we call separation from God "spiritual death," I think you can start to make sense of it.

Remember your best source of truth is Heavenly Father Himself, as his knowledge is perfect - ours in not.

best wishes

I've never heard anything about this except from church detractors. Actually though, if you do look at the ancient church, you see that there WERE fairly harsh penalties in place for mocking God. Read the Bible.

I had my endowments before 1990, and I didn't make any oaths to be killed by anyone.
