But most earthquakes are small and hard to detect, and the number of seismometers in the world has been increasing a lot. So we are detecting far more of them.

Yes earthquakes have increased in last few years and why is a difficult question.

Earthquakes take place due to tectonic movement or movement in palte boundries and regions where two plates meet are most prone to earthquakes.

One very important reason for earthquakes increase in recent times is over exploitation of ground water. When ground water is extracted its cooling effect goes down and this increases the movement resulting in earth quakes.

Another reason is high movement in plates and we do not know if it is a natural cycle. As per ols scriptures in India the Vedas and othersand Mayan civilisation it is a cycle.

Tsunamis also take place due to earthquakes inside oceans and seas.

I live in Mexico for 7 years,

and this years we have tremors almost continuesly coming from places where it has never originated before
there always were some ,but never like this year
by now the house i live in has cracks running along the wall and floors coused by the tremors 2 last week were 6 on the righter scale -

as to why that is the big question ,Volcanic eruptions all over the planet are also increasing ,like tsunamis and hurricanes .

maybe Gaia is trying to tell us to stop messing with her
