No, ya gotta roast it! Place a single layer of asparagus on a baking sheet. Add some chopped garlic, if ya like. Drizzle with a little olive oil and toss in some salt and pepper. Bake at 400 F for about 10-12 minutes...if ya want to add some grated parmesan, throw that over it the last minute or two of cooking time! SSSSOOOOO easy...you can also do this on the grill by just wrapping it all in tin foil.
Roasting gives the asparagus a nice smoky flavor!

Asparagus is really tasty and delicious as a side dish to any meat or seafood if it is fixed this elegant way (courtesy of the old Maxim's Restaurant of Houston, RIP):
Asparagus Camille
1 bunch (10-15) of green stalk asparagus
1 clove of garlic, minced
¼ cup virgin olive oil
Coarse ground pepper (to taste)
Juice of 1 small lemon
¼ cup ground parmesan cheese (fresh or canned)
Cut the bottoms off of the asparagus stalks in a slant and discard. Rinse and paper towel dry the asparagus.
Heat the oil in a large teflon pan on medium heat. Saute the garlic for about a minute until it is slightly browned.
Add the asparagus and the coarse ground pepper. Saute both with the garlic for about 3-4 minutes or until the asparagus is fork tender.
Reduce the heat to low. Add the lemon juice to deglaze the pan. After about another minute, add the parmesan cheese.
Garnish with parsley and serve as an excellent side dish.

Steamed asparagus is the best way to go. Always make sure you cut off the dry ends first, place in a steamer and cook until the stalks are slightly floppy. You can chill them and use them as an addition to salads, too.

I usually toss it with a little olive oil, salt and pepper and put it on the grill. That's just my favorite, but there are lots of ways to cook asparagus. Steam, boil, broil, bake. You could also try putting it in a baking dish and top it with some breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese, seasoning, butter and/or oil and bake until they're tender and the breadcrumbs are toasted.

I steam mine for about 8 minutes or so, just until crisp-tender. Then have it with some hollandaise.
My husband sort of saute/fries them with sesame oil and garlic. Both ways are great!
