It depends upon the cat. I have one that is quite old and quite loud.

Like elderly adults, the vocal cords weaken in the twilight years of a cats life. They also tend to become more stoic in old age and it is harder to spot a health problem. I try to keep a closer eye on my 19 yr old kitty for that reason alone.

I have a cat that is 13 years our age. I think that what happens is that although they want our attention more and more, they are tired of asking for it. See if you notice that your kitty is purring a lot louder than normal when it would normally cry out. Mine does and BOY is he loud.

I have 8 cats, 3 of whom are senior citizens, and they all meow and purr just as loudly as ever. Feed them well, water them, love them, and they will last forever.
