I know that Mormons believe that Jesus was here in the U.S. and communicated with the Native Americans. There was supposedly a big war between the Indians. I don't know all the details. Well if there was a big war wouldn't there be archeological proof supporting this?

I don't mean that the Indians were never at war. I know they were always at war. This one is supposed to be on a much larger scale.

I have no idea what Father K just said so I obviously need to study this more. I was just told to say this when they come knocking on my door step so they would go away and I've never had the opportunity to do so until now.

Here is an actual quote from the book of Mormon. The whole face of the land had become covered with buildings and the people in it were as numerous as were the sands of the sea. Mormon 1:7. It should be noted that no archeological find has ever confirmed the claims of the book of Mormon. Add to that the the book of Mormon was purportedly tranlsated from reformed Eygytion. To this date noone has ever found a language known as reformed Egyption. Here is a quote from the Smithsonion institute. There is no correspondence whatever between sites and cultures as revealed by scientfic investigations, and as recorded in the book of Mormon. Interpretations of archeological and ethnographic data, moreover, are quite unlike te American pre-history which the book of Mrmon describes. Part of a letter from the Smithsonion institute recorded by arthur Budvarson. It is intersting to note that all three witnesses of the book of Mormom were apostized from the Mormon faith and were described as thieves and robbers.(the three names are Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer, and Martin Harris). If you look at early Mormon literature you will find that Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum wrote three articles against the character of the witnesses of the book of Mormon. One more interesting fact is that Mormons suggest that when Christ appeared on the american continent after his resurrection and preached to the nephites he quite naturally used the same language as recorded in the bible. They also maintain when Nephi came to America he brought copies of the Hebrew scriptures, which account for the quotations from the Old Testament. The problem with this excuse is that the miraculus plates on which they were all inscribed somehow or another under translationcame out in perfect King James English approximately a thousand years before the 1611 version was written. One last tidbit. These books are full of historical inacuacies including metals being used before they were invented. The use of a compass on ships efore it had been invented. The mention of elephants and chariots in this continent yet these things were not introduced unitl after the Europain civilazations appeared. Obviously Joseph Smith should have studied history beofre he went about inventng a religion.

The Mormons history is currently being presented on PBS if you can get it. Check it out. Part 1 was last night. Part II should be airing tonight I think.
They haven't talked about wars and Indians yet. Maybe you can find out by watching PBS.
No far I've only seen Joseph Smith and Brigham Young elevated more than God. So I am a little skeptical about this religion right now. I'll wait until I see Part II to form a final opinion.

One would think.
But then, how many tribal wars have their been? If you think that Joseph Smith was just talking out his a**, then you might say that he knew about all these tribal wars and just picked one where one tribe got wiped out. As justification of his golden plates.
Search for Moroni on google or something. I've been told Moroni was the one that escaped with the plates in the first place. So he was the last of the tribe.
But I'm not mormon, just like to have knowledge about various things. An actual mormon would know more than I about the details.

Like you said, there have been numerous wars. How do we know that we have not found evidence for these wars? There have been found all sorts of relics that, when you put them together, form a picture that shows that the Book of Mormon very well could be what it says it is.
Also, from what I understand, most of the western hemisphere does not have the same climate that supports the preservation of the past. Also, there have been many different peoples on these continents, and who knows what changes they made that take away any evidences of Book of Mormon civilizations.
But, most important, is evidence found in Arabia, that Joseph Smith could not have POSSIBLY known, because NO one back then knew it.

So, you basically only want to know for "arguments sake"... you will never find answers when driven by the spirit of contention...
Yes, there were battles, do we "know" it was the Native American Indians? No. Do we "know" where exactly those battles took place? No. Has there ever been archeological evidence found in support of the Book of Mormon? Yes, though of course, it's easier for people to just shrug it off and say "oh there's no evidence"...well, for me the Book of Mormon is evidence itself. That's like saying you wouldn't believe in the bible if there weren't all those Bible Mystery shows on the Discovery channel...where's the faith?
Remember, sign-seeking is a no-no.

I'm not a mormon, and I don't know all that much about what they believe, but I have studied archaeology, specificly New World archaeology and there was almost constant war between the tribes in the new world. The evidence would support that claim.

Yes. Not to mention any of the coinage from the period!! Every society from ancient times has left evidence of their coins. The Book of Mormon states in Alma 11:4, "Now these are the names of the different pieces of their gold, and of their silver, according to their value." Verses 5-19 list several measurements of gold (senine, seon, shum and limnah) and silver (senum, amnor, ezrom and onti). In lower numbers, there were shiblons (worth half a senum), shiblums (half a shiblon), and leahs (half a shiblum). This, according to Alma 11:20, was the measurement of money that the people received for their wages.
Can I borrow a shiblum??
How about the elephants here on the N. American continent! Where are their bones??

There is ALOT of archeological proof that there were wars all throughout the Americas between many different groups of people over thousands of years.
EDIT: Father K...there IS quite a bit of coinage. Read your history for Pete's sake. What do you think the Spanish were bringing back in their ships for all those years???

Jesus visited a group of people on the American Continent. It may have been the fore fathers of the American Indians or another group of people. There is abundant evidence that many people lived and died on the American Continent before Columbus came, both in North and South America. There are large mounds containing bones of dead people in the eastern states. Ruins are still being found in the jungles of South America.

it was the battle between the "nephites" (the white folks) and "lamanites" (the brown folks). and the lamanites won because the nephites had grown proud and was no longer in gods favor.
hence, no more whities in the americas till columbus.
jesus did appear after his ressurection to announce that the gospel was going to be "translated" back with him to the heavens because the world was not worthy of it.
the gospel was then returned to earth via the spirit of moroni on the top of hill comora in albany new york where js then translated and restored the gospel here in and for modern times.
and hey, im not even mormon.
