Yes I've seen it a few times. There is no reason why removal of a foreign object from the stomach of a healthy cat should not be successful. I would say they usually take up to a couple of weeks to be completely back to normal (at home) again - that is, by the time their stitches come out. You might be able to take the cat home the same day, but I think the next day is more usual, they usually prefer 24 hour observation. He'll be on his feet and trotting around the next day, if not the same day! I also once saw a cat who had his colon removed - he's absolutely fine to this day! Cats are TOUGH.

Talk to your vet about what the procedure will involve and when you can expect the cat home, how long they think recovery will take.

Good luck, if your cat is otherwise healthy I'm sure he'll be fine. Perhaps it might even teach him not swallow silly things - but I doubt it!

we often see cats that have swallowed something and have to have it removed
it is better to have it done sooner rather than later as the recovery is much better
most cats will be pretty much back to normal by the following day as long as they have had fluids and pain releif there is a risk post surgery of something called perotinitis which is infected fluid in the abdominal cavity and can be very serious however this is very very rare and more damage will be done by waiting to carry out the surgery

A long time ago I had a cat that needed stomach surgery because he had a hernia or however you spell it. They shavedhis belly and went in and fixed him. He was drugged for a few days but after that he was fine!

My cat swallowed the foam from the bottom of meat packages, it did not digest, I was told by the vet if I hadn't of had her operated on when i did (which was about 9 hours later) she would of died... Her recovery was very speedy....
