Within about one or two hours of Williamsburg would be best.

There's loads *in* Williamsburg. Prime Outlets and the Pottery Factory are the oldest and largest. In fact, people drive over 100 miles just for the outlet shops in Williamsburg.

I love how the first answer only added the link to Prime Outlets and info about the Pottery after I posted it. This is technically against YA Terms of Service.

Williamsburg is a great place for outlet shopping. There are tons. Most are located in the Prime Outlets mall. There is also a Williamsburg Outlet Mall.
Both malls are on Rt 60. Stores include (but aren't limited to, as I cannot remember them all):

Ralph Lauren
Gap
Nike
Tommy HIlfiger
Guess
Coach
Banana Republic
Aeropostale
MIchael Kors
BCBG Maz Azria
J Crew
Izod
Nautica
Reebok/Rockport
L L Bean
Bombay Co
Liz Claiborne
Bass
Bose
Eddie Bauer
Timberland
Clavin Klein
Dooney & Bourke
Brooks Brothers
West Point Pepperel
Lenox
Hanes/Leggs/Bali
Carter's
Mikasa
Cole-Haan
Ann Taylor

Check http://www.primeoutlets.com/cntrdefault.asp?cntrid=1045 for the full list of stores at Prime.

Williamsburg Outlet Mall has a few decent stores; the only true factory outlets that I can recall there are Black and Decker and Totes. There are a couple of shoe stores and some clothing stores.

I would skip the pottery - there are only a few outlets there. The only true factory outlets there are Pfaltzgraff and Pepperidge Farm (and I'm not even so sure that P-Farm is there anymore - can't remember if it was there last time I went).

All the outlet malls are in the far suburbs so it's a drive. I like the premium outlet mall in Aurora but that's about an hour away from Downtown Chicago. There are, however, outlet stores sprinkled here and there in the city. Three come to mind right now. One is the Mark Shale outlet on Elston near Logan Blvd. another is the Gap outlet on the corner of Milwaukee and Kimball and the Crate and Barrel outlet on Clybourn near North Ave (there are two Crate and barrels near that location within a block or two. One is a regular one and the other is the outlet). I'm sure there are more here and there.

I don't think so.

I can't imagine someone going someplace like williamsburg without doing some homework on it. I guess if you don't know where you going any road will take you there.

There are only two things in Williamsburg, Colonial and shoping.
