(1) Considering Iraq had universal conscription til 2003, you're going to have to explain what you did instead of becoming an officer in the Iraqi military. Did you do your two years enlisted? Did you buy your way out? Explain.

(2) Be glad that you weren't taken away. That you actually got on the internet means that you were let off easy - assuming you're even telling the truth. When I did cordon and search on target houses suspected of being weapon caches, all the adult males were taken away for interrogation.

(3) If they didn't find any, good on you. Your property should be more or less intact. Someone in your neighborhood hates you because we don't just go after houses in a block for no reason whatsoever. Someone has information (true or false) that leads to the raid in the first place.

And remember, we didn't do it alone. We had Iraqi Army or Police with us. We don't do searches just on our own anymore. Someday (probably sooner than you think) we won't be around when the Iraqi Army or Police do the same thing. And remember ... occupiers we may be, but we didn't execute your brother (if that story is true), and we won't shoot you because of your ethnic group or religion.

EDIT: Ah, so you DID do your enlisted time, with 7th Division up north. I was in the 101st Airborne, in 2003 we fought the Medina Division and Fedayeen Saddam. I have also been to Mosul and Kirkuk; I know Kirkuk well. I'm sure you are happier in Baghdad. Which neighborhood?

Now I understand why you got your exemption ... you had university education. I congratulate you. I'm terribly sorry about your brother. And I hope your house wasn't destroyed by IA or IP (we usually have instructions to be careful). You do know that we (Americans) will pay you for all damage done to your property if you are innocent, right? (If you weren't innocent, you wouldn't be on the internet). Either someone will contact you, or you contact the Americans through the Iraqi Police station.

By the way, check with all your friends and business associates. SOMEONE told somebody in the IA or IP that you were a possible supporter of someone - anyone. Mahdi Army. Badr Corps. 1920 Revolution Brigades. Anyone, and that you had weapons in your house. You may want to take extra care when going outside.

Good luck to you.

Your brother was executed for being opposed to Saddam, and you were offered an officer's commission in Saddam's army? You refused to serve Saddam and you are alive? Sorry but this story sounds a bit ... full of holes.

Be it as it may, a search at 11.00 is not much of a hardship. Especially if they did not demolish the house. In my country (Poland) the police and 11 other state organisations can do house searches- though they usually come in at 04.00! And the house will never look the same afterwards!

In any case I hope no harm was done and that they acted in good faith and with your safety in mind. I hope you will be able to live in safety in a free, democratic country.

I am an Ammerican (not a lawyer), but a similar thing happened to me on 1 January, 1991, when I lived in a rough neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The police came in without knocking or announcing their presence; scared the dog, who barked; and then they killed the dog and everything went crazy.

They were supposed to be investigating a "domestic dispute" in the building behind mine, but they came into the wrong place and shot somebody's dog, all because the events happened in a bad area where the police were scared to be.

I was never able to file a lawsuit, either, because I couldn't find a lawyer who wanted to take the case, and the cops frightened all of the witnesses from testifying in court. We were told "If we ever hear from you again (if this goes to court), you'll hear from us again."

So it sounds like you did the right thing by not getting mad and trying to laugh it off.

Let's hope tomorrow is a better day.

I can't imagine being in your shoes! And I hope that you find peace and happiness always ... you say that you despise "guns, killers, terrorists, etc" and with that foundation I am asking you to understand that by occupying your country, the Americans are hoping to hinder future terrorists attacks against all innocent lives, not just their own. The USA is not in Iraq for money or oil, but to keep the future of our WORLD free of fear and hostility. Hope this helps.

Like we are supposed to believe you?

Hint: get a better clue as to what is going on in Iraq or those of us who _have_ been there will keep laughing at your pathetic lies.

Actually the only thing more pathetic is how many people believed you.

You're english is good enough for me to understand. As far as US and Iraqi soldiers storming your house, maybe they were given false information that stated that you had weapons.
