I need to be insured on my boyfriend's truck for 4 months. I will be driving regularly. What kind of insurance do I need and can this be done in one phone call?

If you live with him, he needs to add you to his policy.

If you do not live with him, you generally do not need to be added to the policy nor do you need to provide coverage of your own; you'll be covered by his insurance automatically.

Liability coverage extends to all authorized drivers. An authorized driver is a household member listed on the policy or any non-household member driving the vehicle with the owner's consent.

On rare occasions a policy may exclude drivers below a certain age, typically 21 or 25. This is most common on commercial policies but a quick check of his policy should reveal any restrictions.

Your boyfriend should call his insurance company and add you to the policy. If you don't, and you have an accident, the insurance company is not obligated to pay. This could be very serious, especially if your accident caused injuries or death.
