One of my users has Windows XP Pro and he has "keep taskbar on top of all other windows" and "Lock the taskbar" are checked. "Auto hide taskbar" is not checked. Every time he opens an excel doc. the taskbar will disappear. The only way I know to get it back is to uncheck "keep taskbar on top of all other windows" and then recheck "keep taskbar on top of all other windows". All windows are maxamized as well. I am not sure what to try next.

Thanks

Right click on your task bar and click on Properties from the pop-up menu.

Under the "Taskbar appearance" frame, uncheck the "Auto-hide the taskbar" check box.

Good luck.

If it is only in Excel, check to see if Excel has been set to use "Full Screen" mode. That will cause it to cover everything else on the screenm including the task bar.

(You should be able to get the taskbar back up by pressing the "Windows Logo" key on their keyboard)

If it's only Excel that does this, the setting is likely in Excel, not the TaskBar properties. Try looking in the options of Excel to see if it's the cause.

Is he really opening Excel, or is he opening a Internet Explorer window to view an Excel workbook? There is a big difference in terms of functionality.

If he's using a browser window for excel, see if he's pressed F11 (Full Screen) to maximize the screen - that autohides the task bar and minimizes the menu bars at the top as well.
