small, highly specialized group of select Army personnel. They are part of the Special Operations community and are trained in unconventional warfare. They are trained in covert operations and are typically sent it to perform a mission when it is desired that a team go in, perform the mission, and get back out, without being seen. Delta teams train together and execute their missions using small groups, each with specialized training.

Delta is a highly trained rapid reaction force. Although the Army rangers are the primary rapid deployment force they operate in larger numbers then Delta. In even larger numbers are the 82nd. Airborne. Depending on the mission and the threat. Delta is primarily a spook organization. The men of the Special Forces, and Delta are trained in different languages. For instance, if you are of a swarthy complextion and a thick build, you will learn Hungarian, are Bosnian as a language since you fit in with the general population. You would not send a blonde haired blue eyed trooper to Columbia for instance. Although they are in the Army, most of there work comes from the different spook branches of the Government. Delta and the Special Forces do most of there work in civillian clothes. When I trained against the Special Forces guys they wore civys. Levies and T shirts. Pretty cool guys. For a better idea of what they do, watch the T.V. show the Unit. It's pretty close. corEy ma, doesn't know what he's talking about. The Seals and Marine Force Recon are good but they are not spooks. You asked how to join Delta. First you must go to jump school. If you get your jump wings, then you go to Ranger school, if you can do that you can volenteer for Delta. But you will have to get a security clearance and pass physch. tests before they will even talk to you.

Delta force was at one time a classified group of paramillitary specialists. they are highly trained in high risk operations such as hostage rescue, recon, quick strike, ambush etc. To join Delta one has to enlist in the Army, be trained in infantry, be airborne qualified, graduate from both Ranger and Special Forces school, then you have to go through a rigorous selection process. And your rank has to be above E-5 I believe.

SFOD-D, Special Forces Operational Detachment_Delta. They are are volunteer men from the army (they can come other services as well). Thier primary mission is counter terrorism. Alot of thier stuff is top secret but the existence of the team is not. They have a web page and recruiters. The recruiters go throughout the Army recruting Soldiers to try out for the team. The are not comparable with Marine Force Recon. They are more comparable with SEALS but their mission is even more specialized than the SEALS. There is a is book out by one of the founding Sergeants Major of the Team, that is a pretty good read.

Delta is the Primary Counter Terrorist Force for the US.
they are seen as the pinnacle of the US Army. They specialize in Close Quarter Battle. Their training was originally based on the tactics of the SAS and both cross train to utilize new tactics from other forces like GSG-9, GIGN and SASR.
To the People above me, where are you getting your info? they are CT, NOT Combat Air Controllers, Light Artillery and definatly not Light Armour and such.

who are you? and why do you want to know? What the delta force do is Top Secret echelons above what any civilian needs to know. They protect our country at different levels. They are soldiers in the Army who take the challenge. Talk to a recruiter- if I were a guy I would try to do it.

A highly elite rapid deployment force of mixed arms. Special Forces, light infantry, mobile artillery, Combat Air Controlers, Air Mobile Infantry, and light armor.
I believe one of their mission objectives is to be airborne within a few hours of receiving deployment orders.
