Several years ago a girl-friends new fella told me i had the deepest soul of anyone he had ever met. This really touched me despite not knowing what it really meant & he assured me it was a compliment.
However after a few years of several emotional challenges im beginning to feel that its more like the curse from the deep.
Does a deep soul mean you are very sensitive thus emotionally vunerable?
If so how can you block out the negative, emotional stuff without comprimising who you are?

I suspect its not possible to change who you are, just maybe the situations you get into which may or may not have a good or bad affect on your emotional wellbeing.

A "deep soul" in my opinion is a wonderful thing to have. It means you are sensitive to Truth and Beauty. Build on that. Some Native Americans have a teaching which says that your heart is your mind, you think with your heart, your head is your ego, an organizational tool. Don't block, open your heart, feel, and then let go of those or what is harmful. It's a tall order but if you learn communication skills and self-respect you can fulfill your life as a wonderfully sentient being. As you remain moral you will always be able to trust your heart. Life takes heart, or courage, as the French word suggests and life is not for the fearful.

Being very empathic is both a curse and a blessing. Search for sites by some. There's some protective visualization you can use to shield out or cope with all the negativity you pick up in the world.

Yes; depth means that things affect you more, you are more aware of the emotional states of those around you and the good and bad in your environment. The best way to block the bad is to surround yourself with the good. Don't watch crap TV (it's like computers: garbage in, garbage out). TV is okay, just be selective in viewing things that are good and build you up and teach you...not sermons, necessarily, but documentaries, good films, not just any garbage.
Same with reading, music, etc...choose things that build you up instead of tearing you down.
Same with friendships. Avoid people that are users, liars, players or just enjoy dragging you down to their level. Surround yourself with intelligent, interesting people who are on the same wavelength as you, people you can learn from and share with.
Whatever your spiritual beliefs, concentrate on the good and cultivate that in yourself. Recognize and work on eliminating the bad.

life is full of ups and downs and its sometimes gets tough but we have to hang in there. don't change who you are for any thing, to have a deep soul is a not a bad thing. what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. keep holding on.

Try to develop a 'thicker skin'...but stay exactly who you are underneath that outer layer!
