The rumor I received is that the meats are not USDA inspected.

Yes and they often are.

But since they are USDA inspected, I don't have a big problem with that. However, the admission that they pump assorted gases into the packaging to keep the meat looking fresh looking is more disturbing to me.

The meat sold at Walmart is not different than the meat sold at Brookshire's, Albertson's, Kroger, Schnuks or the Piggly Wiggly. If you buy sliced meat from the deli, you get the same options of Pilgrim's Pride, Hormel and any other brands of meat. If you buy lunch meat in the meat and cheese area of the deli cases, you still get Oscar Meyer and other usual brands. The same is true of the raw meat you buy in the meat aisle.

If there is meat from other countries, I doubt it is only sold at Walmart.

I've never heard that. I do know that their ground beef (the kind where all the packages are identical in weight, size, etc. and vacuum sealed come from Florida. Don't know if the cows are Floridian cows, but at least the meat is packaged there. I'm unsure of the poultry, pork, fish, etc.

A lot of meat sold in the US comes from other countries. A good portion of beef we eat comes from South America now. They are clearing the rain forest to make pastures for cattle, among other things, hence the term "rain forest beef".

<> Just because something it legal doesn't mean it's right. <> There's a reason you can't spell 'assume' without '***'. People who assume too much end up making asses of themselves. < murder, how come?>> Doesn't make sense, does it - and yet, there you are advocating people merely ASSUME the government is right! <> WRONG! <> Ad hominem attacks hurt your credibility. Perhaps Marc, like me, doesn't see too much in the way of credibility when reading your question. < is NOT murder.>> The term "fetus" literally means "the young in the womb". The fetus IS a living human being. Life begins at conception, not birth nor some arbitrary point in between. Therefore, every abortion constitutes the murder of an unborn human being. <> But the fetus IS human. Therefore, abortion IS murder. < and stupid imagination.>> What's so narrow minded about acknowledging the unborn for the living human beings they are? Since you're unable to do that, wouldn't that suggest your mind is in fact more narrow than mine? < person NOT two.>> That just goes to show how schizophrenic human institutions can be - and you want to ASSUME such an institution (the government) is right.
