No, we don't have the right to kill anybody. Most criminals had a bad past and should get a chance to become normal again. And I don't believe in an afterlife, so killing would be far too nice for some crimes... I'm in the favor of castrating rapers and pedophiles, though...
Edit: all this black and white, good and evil thinking here! Does anyone thought of how and why those people commit crime? Most of the time others (parents, gov., society) are to blame. If you had the luck to grow up happily, have you the right to get rid of someone who didn't? Killing a 17y old criminal?? Some (not all!!!) people can be helped and it is our duty do try. The death penalty won't keep those people from committing crime, USA has a higher crime rate than Europe, where there is no death penalty.

The death penalty is a very final solution. The major problem with it is that we are so often wrong when we convict someone. I have seen many lives ruined just with the false accusation. If we had the omniscience of God, we could deal with the death penalty. As it is, however, there are too many things we cannot know or see, and we are more than likely to be putting innocent people to death, unless we abolish the death penalty altogether.
While there are clearly crimes for which the death penalty may be appropriate, we lack the wisdom and discernment to use the death penalty consistentlyl and without error. Accordingly, we should follow the New Testament injunction of loving our neighbor and of hating the sin, but loving the sinner. If we wrongly convict someone whom we have only imprisoned, that wrong may be corrected to a degree; this cannot be done when you have executed someone.

Let the punishment fit the crime. Chemical castration for serial rapists and pedophiles...A loss of personal property for thieves...and Death for those who maliciously take another human life.
This has nothing to do with your god. We are talking about the consequences for these actions in this world. Conscious murder is a crime against people...and those people should determine his earthly fate. If, for some reason, there truly is a heaven, then expedite his journey, and allow your god to pass judgement as well.

Two wrongs don't equal a right which is why having the death penalty does not stop murders. Ending the life of another living human being is WRONG no matter whether a criminal or a government does so.

You're forgetting a lot of things here, while thinking of the "eye for an eye" thing with this.
While it is not right in putting anyone to death, you have to think about their actions which suit the punishment, as well as how much of the tax payer money goes to keeping criminals in gaol every year, among other things.
In my personal opinion, I am neither for nor oposed the death penalty, the crimes committed swade me to one or the other.

Putting people to death is being merciful to them and putting them out of their misery. Why should we do this?
It is my personal belief (harsh as it is) that if someone is convicted of murder, they should be handed over to the family of the victims to b dealt with. Torture would be my choice! No quick way out by kind lethal injection. They should be put through excrutiating pain, and left to rot.

Yes , in some circumestances especiallly in killing.
Because if the killer know that he might be killed if he kill somebody , he will think alot before doing such thing .
In this situation you protect the poeple and the whole society from that criminal ,
the life of criminal is important , but the life of innocent victims is important too.
Thank you

It depends on the severity of the crime. In some cases, yes I do believe they should pay with their lives. They are killed humanely which is more than you can say for their victims.

There are some crimes so evil and criminals so awful that justice demands their death. Kidnap, rape and bury alive a young girl so she can suffocate and die?
Send him home to his god and let him explain his actions there; but get him out of the game.

If they kil another person (Depending upon the circumstance - eg: self defense, etc) YES, they should be put to death.
Even if it doesn't teach socitey a lesson, at the very least the murderer will not be around to do it again.
