Excellent question. History is in one sense the story of Man's hubris slowly being cut down by reality: we're not the centre of the universe, and we're not even the centre of the solar system.
And we're nothing like the dominant organism on the planet. The one that is is probably grass, with its vast teams of mammalian slaves tending to it all over the world.
But we're still, apparently, God's finest work. (snigger)

Exactly. Egos get all puffed up, thinking man is the center of the universe. We are not. We have an important place in it.
The thing is today, people can't understand anything but their own enviorment and believe it is the same all over the universe. It is stronger in the US than other countries due to our insulation. For example, people believe a "day" is ALWAYS 24 hours. A day can be of almost any length. On any other planet of our solar system 24 hrs. does not apply.

All alone. Imagine.
You are the absolute. You are ALL. You are God.
You will never see two suns enjoying an ice cream at the beach. You will never see two galaxies embracing at the birth of a new galaxy.
Yet for all our faults- our ability to kill one another, our ability to hate, to create such madness- we are unique.
For we can eat an ice cream on the beach while at the same time feel the sun on our face and be one with it. We can look up at the stars and the few galaxies we can see and at the same time embrace the person we love.
We are like the absolute, yet we are more, because we are human. And no matter how many times I try to tell human beings this over the days, the centuries, the millenia- only a very special few ever understand.
See: http://ucadia.org/uca/u04/040100.htm for a journey to understand, if you choose. All the best.

As Tink suggests, some things you can do to practice relaxing before work are t'ai chi, meditation, yoga or just some quiet time for reflection on the upcoming day prior to heading in to work. Many find that these type of activities help prepare themselves to remain at ease and to deal with stressful situations.

Your question is VERY old. Job asked it (and the book of Job is said to be the oldest story in the Bible), and King David asked it:
Job 7:17-18 -- "What is man, that You should exalt him, That You should set Your heart on him, that You should visit him every morning, And test him every moment?
Psalms 8:4 -- What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?
Psalms 144:3 -- Lord, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him?
And the writer of the book of Hebrews recognized it as an important question:
Hebrews 2:6-7 -- But one testified in a certain place, saying: "What is man that You are mindful of him, Or the son of man that You take care of him? You have made him a little lower than the angels;
But here we also find an answer:
vss. 7-8
You [God] have crowned him with glory and honor, And set him over the works of Your hands. You have put all things in subjection under his feet." For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him.
And back to verse 5:
For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels.
And:
Romans 8:14 -- For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
Humanity is the pinnacle of God's creation, the beings who can become his very children. Wouldn't you be very mindful of your children?

This is one of the things that led me to abandon belief in God. When you look at the vastness of the universe it seems the height of arrogance to think God would care about someone getting a good parking place at the mall.

On the last day of creation, God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26). Thus, He finished His work with a “personal touch.” God formed man from the dust and gave him life by sharing His own breath (Genesis 2:7). Accordingly, man is unique among all God’s creations, having both a material (body) and an immaterial (soul / spirit) part.

well, I can't talk for everyone, but personally I can make a sound like a kitten purring. I think that is pretty special.
