So... having a democratically elected president is worse than having an absolute monarch who can pretty much do anythign he wants with absolutely no comeback?

I'm guessing it isn't.

joshua:

Technology has also given us medicine, education, transport, communication and freedoms we never had.

It's also worth pointing out we've had these terrible weapons for over 60 years and - the end of WWII aside - not used them. This is unheard of in military history.

Maybe we've learnt?

The gist of it is they watch too much Fox News. News channels have figured out a long time ago that showing death, destruction, fear and terror and disaster keeps people from changing the channel. Its a shame those watching it haven't figured it out.

The Bible shows in the context of world history, this wicked system of things is nearing its end. The present world governments are controlled by Satan the Devil. Jesus did not dispute this when tempted by Satan and was offered all the kingdoms of the earth if Jesus would only do a single act of worship to him. (Luke 4: 5-7)

Jehovah does not do anything part way. His original purpose in Genesis was for the earth to be turned into a Paradise by the work of perfect humans under His rightful rulership. Though interupted by Satan's attempt at questioning God's right to rule His creations, after wiping out this wicked system, He will return earth to that Paradise with us as decendants of Adam to live forever in it.

Jesus' followers needed to know how to tell when that time would be and what to do to be safe. 2 Timothy 3: 1-7 lists these things. True all these things have gone on throughout time but never on such a grand scale. Wars involving the entire world at once. Entire populations starving. Especially men having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power or false religion claiming to be christian but having nothing to do with following Jesus Christ. Epidemics of disease on an unparrelled scale. Spanish flu, aids, and bubonic plague to mention just a few that killed millions each.

Satan knows this. He and his followers are doing everything they can to take everyone with them.

As agriculture replaced hunting and gathering, human population increased, and people divided themselves into different kinds of groups. Civilized societies developed social classes with priests and kings at the top. Wealthy landowners collected rents from poor farmers, men came to dominate women, and slavery became common. Nomadic people of the grasslands adopted a very different lifestyle: they herded animals from pasture to pasture with the seasons. They learned to ride horses, developed cavalry skills, and attacked settled communities. Nomads sweeping in from the steppes of Eurasia raided farming villages and sometimes conquered whole civilizations becoming the new rulers.

Humans reacted to change in different ways. Some people chose to adopt new ways to make their lives easier or to avoid being conquered by rivals with better technology. Sometimes societies tried to maintain traditional ways by avoiding change. In the late Middle Ages, China was a superpower with the greatest navy in the world until China's rulers chose to limit contact with the outside world and dismantled the fleet. This choice opened the door for Europeans to explore and dominate the modern world.

The stream of time flows on. As always, we humans face challenges to our survival, but in our time, the challenges are global. Communications and trade connect the world more closely today than ever before, but humans remain divided into groups who view the world differently. History shows that difference can be deadly. Modern technology makes it possible for wars, terrorism, and environmental damage to cross oceans and long distances. Technology now threatens our planet and every life form on it.
