For those that don't have strong community or family support, it's often a refuge for druggies, hookers, depressed, lonely, diseased, mental illness, marriage breakdowns, sexual issues and the list goes on.

For this aspect, religion is to be commended, but it hardly answers all the big questions, and often smacks of predatory behaviour where any numbers added to the ranks will do..

It surely explains the obvious mental capacity of a few believers/creationists on here anyway..
"God fearing folk saved me from misery, so I'm gonna stand by their fairytales.."

It's a shame that it's a dead end street they've taken though..

Now for some highly entertaining feedback.. Enjoy.

The world rewards the achievers.

Jesus Christ accepts and rewards all if they follow his ways

Islam hates all unbelievers, and when you become a believer they encourage you to kill yourself.

Im following Jesus ... I hope you will too

Maybe you've been watching too much television. The people you are talking about only find refuge in Christian soup kitchens, not especially Christianity. But only on television. American television. But America has all the real sick and needy who want help but only get it on television.. Religion really bites when southern redneck morons can't understand why they can't afford to live in a trailer park. They suddenly find that they must be really rich (in some godawful way) and start praising Jesus for making them dumb and poor. They thank their God for not being black, for making them smart enough to join the military and serve their Masters. The people who don't give a crap about them. And somehow they get access to computers so they can carry on telling us how great it is to be an American. Going to war against people they know nothing about. Even when they can't spell their own name. And they will fight to live in an American slum rather than an American made slum. Those people that you spoke of? If you you know any personally then I'd love to hear their story, Those I spoke of are anywhere you care to look. If you are American.

I value the work of the Churches and other religious bodies in their work in helping those who need it. It is particularly needed in a country which gives no help.

It is the case that many support and development bodies such as Relate and Samaritans were started by religious people.

Can a secular society rise to help, I do not know. However countries like France, Denmark, Sweden and Co. have shown the way

that's not the way it works.the reason there down and out or lacking strength is because of their lack of faith.the fact that they haven't accepted Christ into their lives made them suffer such hard ships.Psalm 72:12-13 for he will deliver the needy who cry out,the afflicted who have no one to help.he will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. Why do you have a problem with something that only brings happiness and hope to peoples lives?

Religion tends to accept anyone who desires to learn regardless of judging their health or state of sin.

What street does atheism lead down thats so much better? Telling these people their life ends at death and there is nothing else. People enjoy hope so much more than glum doubt.

Mark 2:15 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.

16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?

17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

You are right about that, that people who know that they are sinners flock to the only hope they've got. But who says that you are right about it being fairy tales?

Answer: Other people who don't have the desire to come to God.

As Jesus said:
Luke 7:47
Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

So you are there, on your high horse. I'll set myself up with Jesus, and you can do whatever you feel like. I know that I am in good with Jesus.

You bet on your horse, I'll bet on mine. Let's see who wins.

The sick need the cure. You pious "healthy" people can just keep pointing the finger and bragging about yourselves and how smart you are.

I often see christians talking about how empty and pointless their lives were before they found god. Since I don't believe in god(s) and yet my life does not seem empty and pointless there might be something to what you say.
