The guy I like revealed a lot of stuff to me about his personal life during the first two months of our friendship. One of his secrets included the fact that his brother is gay and no one knows except his immediate family.

I didn't force him to tell me. We were just discussing our siblings and their relationships and at first he was reluctant to talk about it and when he told me he got real quiet and said he'd call me later.

Is this good or bad? Did he tell me this to get close to me or was he just trying to gain sympathy? I don't know if he was being genuine.

I'm 19 and he's 17 and we've been friends since Dec.06

keep your clothes on...for now ....time will tell if he is being real or not....give him about a week or so...his brother being gay don't deserve no sympathy anyway....he may just felt like he had to tell someone because it has been bothering him...he may now feel like that let out the family secret...just keep your eyes open.

Maybe it's because he feels comfortable enough with you that he felt he could trust you with his deepest secrets (or at least some of them to start). But here you are..putting it out over the web..hmmmm...

Be there for him and offer the support he seems to be seeking. Keep his secrets (so long as they aren't a danger to him or others of course). That is what friends do isn't it??

If you are still friends then its a good sign. It sounds like he has respect for you and trusts you to be able to tell you this.
If he hasn't mentioned it since, it doesn't sound like he's after sympathy, just that he can't talk to anyone else about it and he felt he could talk to you.

This is stupid. The guy is simply trying to gain sympathy.
How come anyone can reveal so harsh truths about the family. You cannot be above the family.

I think he was just sharing with you because he felt comfortable at the time to do.

Did it make you feel uncomfortable with his sharing something that was an important issue in his life?

He probably figured that if he continued seeing you , you would find out anyway. He just wanted to be the one to tell you instead of somone else.

Sounds genuine, like who would just make that up to get in good with you, but then again it's just so out there it would be believable.
