Neither. They can be complimentary though.
Cheers :-)

I can't speak for 'religions', but Christianity isn't threatened by science. I know that seems smug, but it hasn't been refuted by science. It only challenges those Christians who are stuck on some tradition. I think that science helps us to recognize traditions that are not Biblical. Like the Earth being the center of the universe. When that happened, science proved the tradition false. I have more to worry about with tradition than I would with science. In fact, I don't worry about science at all. God made things the way they are, but traditions were set by men.

You don't need science for there to be religion. Science can either prove religion, or disprove. But to have religion in science? You can have passion and science but I'm not sure of any religion involving science. Concidering religion is more often then not faith based, I would say they are independant of each other. I am open for debate on this. You have yourself a good question.

Science can disprove religion. Science has learned that 2 of every species of living thing on this planet weighs about 100 million tons and Noah would have needed an Arc a mile long. When science makes a mistake it will admit it. When religion makes a mistake it says, "Ignore it and it will go away".

Science and the sort of religions that are continually bashed on this site come from the same sort of thinking. I am not knocking either camp, but people are better off being hunters and gatherers. But at this point we have no choice, either believe in science to protect our home, or die. This does not rule out God but we have gone to far, too many world ills, disease, overpopulation, pollution, religious fanatics, far right regime in Washington, but very in line with the chaos that is the natural order of the Universe. It is the idea of divine providence and an ordered universe that came from science, and interpreted via religion, that got us into this trouble in the first place........ Yes, Bash any religion that kills for GOD or people who live in bifurcation...... It is not going to go away, we can no longer be in denial, there will be no new planet to go too, like red knecks are going to go make OUR home uninhabitabal, then go to another planet and then mine it, sick........

Depends on what you mean by "meaning."
One of the most important values of science is the use of reason. Problems aren’t assumed to be solved by tradition, faith, or simply trusting someone’s word. The use of reason helps ensure that explanations and solutions are based upon reality rather than upon personal preference, what is politically correct, or what is ideologically convenient.

If I have to make a choice: mutually exclusive.
We can get along just fine without religion. Not so science.

Science and religion are like Han Solo and Greedo sitting in a bar. Han, being science in this analogy has a blaster pointed at Greedo under the table but Greedo doesn't know this. Anyone who has seen Star Wars can finish this analogy.

Albert Einstein's "science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind"applies to religions that conflict with science ....it happens when science has given one explanation for a certain thing and religion has given another explanation.personally i think "religions" shouldn't bother themselves with trying to teach science.
that's why i appreciate Buddhism...it helps me to be a good person by teaching me ethical principles and moral values and doesn't ATTEMPT to teach other subjects.

Now that we are in the 21st century, science can be a common, uniform, non divisive, peaceful forum with which to understand ourselves and the world around us, and with no hidden agendas.
Religion? Just look back in history, or turn on the news channel, or look up what the Mormon offshoots are doing to kids in the USA..
I know which one I'd prefer to do without..

"Science without meaning is dead" - but that doesn't mean we should look to the ideas of supernatural beings constructed by primitive men to explain what they couldn't to give meaning to science. There are plenty of other meanings you could fill in without resorting to superstition and outdated rituals.
And we could get along just fine without religion. It's about time, too.
