First of all, we must be clear on what Zionism is and isn't. Zionism is the wish, based on both modern political necessity and ancient religious beliefs, for Jews to have a homeland. Judaism is both a religion and an ethnic identity. I know it's hard for some people to understand, but that's the way it is. The religion and the identity are very intertwined and revolve around an ancient way of life originally based on a religious covenant with G-d. People adhering to this way of life or are descended from the culture the convenient created over millenia are Jews.

Jews want a homeland like any other ethnic group. That's Zionism.

Zionism is not a plot by Jews to take over the world. It is not a plot to make Arabs miserable. It is not a Christian movement. It's only about Jews wanting a homeland of their own in which they can live according to their own cultural way of life. It is no different than French, American, or Japanese nationalism.

Zionism has everything to do with Judaism and being Jewish. Whatever other attributes you're assigning to it come from bigotry.

Good question. As you probably know, a Jew can be (a) a member of a nation, who has no affiliation with the religion and is an atheist; (b) a member of the religious faith of Judaism, based on Rabbinical Judaism; (c) a member of a cultural group which affiliates itself with Jewish ideals such as orthodox Judaism.

Zionism as we know it has two distinct elements- one infamous for the publication of propaganda claiming to be jewish conspiracy of "World Domination" in the Protocols of Zionism- a document used by both the Russian Tsar at the end of the 19th C to kill Russian Jews and Hitler to ferment fear and hatred.

The second element is the "Jewish state" ideal which rose from the 1920's and culminated in the formation of Israel.

Unfortunately, when speaking of Zionism, the two distinct elements are often intertwined. All the best.

If Jews oppose Zionism then Judaism has nothing to do with Zionism. So I am guessing true Jews oppose it.

I think that most people who talk about Zionism are referring to the worst possible form of it. The word has more than one meaning.

I am not for the slaughter of anyone. Maybe except those who come at me with guns. Who wouldn't.

But I believe that God gave Israel, all of it, to Abraham who then gave it through the child of promise: Isaac. So that land will be Israel again, and it will be defended. I am glad of that.

The land is rightfully Jewish and Israely. No it is not religion that makes it there right, but it is their history both of the ancient past and since 1948.
