I went to a Church meeting the other day (at the request of Elders, free food, this pretty lady I like, I knew she would be there, even though, I did not know she was Christian), Igot insulted. I was told natural men (another Native American said this) who honor the earth, are going to hell. So, I sang the congregation a earth spirituality song about photo synthesis and told them my people Paiutes have a covenant with God to protect Mother Earth, for future generations to survive we need to protect the ozone layer and make sure animals and the water is good and so forth. I told them we all come from the same first human beings. As I sang the Elders were proud, I could see how many thought I was bad or even evil. Anyway, by the end, they were respectful. The Methodist preacher said, good thing for the New testament, we each laughed. The Baptist folks, sort of shunned me after that. Next time, I am writing them a song, as they were jamming, but when I do, I am going to GET DOWN.....

Dear nativear,

I'm not sure that the church explained what was meant correctly when they used the term "natural man". When the Bible talks about the natural man he is talking about the man who has not received Jesus Christ as His Savior.

The old covenant was kept by following the Law, but as the Bible teaches, no one could keep all of God's law perfectly (and when we violate God's law that is called sin). The only way in the Old Testament to atone for sin was to sacrifice an animal to God. When Jesus died on a cross, he died to be the perfect sacrifice (because he was sinless) for man that man though he is sinful can have a personal relationship with God because of Jesus' shed blood. So this is why people follow the New Covenant.

i don't think there is anything wrong with protecting the earth, ozone, animals, water, etc., and to value what God has given dominion over. But to worship nature is quite a different thing. My church does outreaches with Native Americans and i appreciate many parts of Native American culture (esp. killer Indian bread). I hope you will find a church that teaches the Bible and base your beliefs on what God himself has spoken through His word. God talks about a covenant between him and man, and one mediator of that covenant which is Jesus Christ.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

Why would you or anyone else, be they a group or an individual, need to have a covenant with some mythical being to protect the Earth? Why wouldn't you want to protect the Earth simply because it is the only home we have?
