Well I guess it all depends on how much you are willing to spend on your "dream skiing holiday."

Choice number 1: Mike Wigele Heli Skiing www.wiegele.com No question about it, hands down the best experience you can have. Leave your ego at home because when they hand you "fat" skis, they mean "FAT". Unless you have the widest possible powder skis in your quiver of equipment, just bring your boots and poles because your skis will sit in the lodge. Not cheap, but this is the ultimate. Quality lodges, food, helicopters, guides, and oh yeah, SNOW! Once in a lifetime and set aside some extra dough to purchase more vertical feet, because when you reach your maximum, you’re always going to want more.

Choice 2: Les Trois Vallees, France
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Trois_Vall%C3%A9es
A lot of people will say Chamonix, which is also amazing, but if this trip includes people of various skiing abilities, some may be in over their heads. Les Trois Vallees has something for everyone. The villages are full of culture and great food. The winters can be like the U.S. - sometimes good, sometimes not (like this season 2006-2007).

Choice 3: Portillo Chile
www.skiportillo.com
If you can not get enough snow during our winter, try South America during our SUMMER. Portillo sits by itself in the middle of the Andes with its own glacial Lake. Once you get there you are there for the week to stay. There is a movie room, full dining room, bar, nightly entertainment, and no experience in South America would be complete with out a disco/nightclub downstairs. Do not be deceived by the small trail map. The entire resort sits above the tree line - everywhere you look and can get to, you can ski. On good years when the lake freezes, eat lunch at Tio Bob's, then ski the Lake Run to the waters edge and ski across back to the hotel. Totally unique. There are not a lot of groomed runs. If you want more groomers and space try Valle Nevado (www.vallenevado.com). It’s bigger than and not as intimate as Portillo. Some people like it. Give me Portillo any day.

My all time favorite destination resort is Telluride. It is a small town nestled in a secluded valley. It's generally not crowded and has some great terrain. Definitely a place to take a girfriend/boyfriend. Here are some of the other places I've been to and really enjoyed:

Dolomites in Italy are awesome and have some of the most amazing scenery in the world. The people are also quite warm and welcoming. Traveling around from small town to small town is quite an experience.

The Utah peaks (Snowbird, Alta, Solitude, Park City) all get amazing snow. Solitude is my favorite in Utah - it is NEVER crowded. Alta is nice, but no snowboards allowed.

Can't go wrong with Colorado either. Vail, Copper Mountain, Aspen and Breckenridge are great, with tons of terrain, but if you are looking for serious bumps and steeps - Arapahoe Basin is paradise. A large percentage of the mountain is black or double black and is above the tree line.

If you are looking for a fun-filled glitzy vacation, check out the Tahoe resorts. Always great snow, but quite expensive.

Big Sky in Montana is expansive and there is never a wait at the lift line. It's also a good price compared to the other spots I've listed above. Had a great time in Montana, and there are a couple of sick chutes that you can only drop into after signing in with the ski patrol and showing that you have an avalanche beacon and shovel. Awesome!

A few year ago I took a trip to Vermont and skied at Sugarbush and Mad River Glen. Mad River was awesome. It's a relatively small mountain, so combining a trip there with some mountains in the area is a good idea. They don't allow snowboarders, so if you're going with any of them.... they can just board somewhere else. The great thing about Mad River is that you can ski anywhere, they only have no skiing signs on dangerous places, aka off of a cliff that lands in a pile of boulders.... Basically I had an awesome time there. Unfortunately I've never skied out west, so I can't give you any tips for out there, but some of my friends have gone on trips there, and have had a blast.

Stevens Pass, Near Seattle, Washington.

Check out www.stevenspass.com for more info.

Not only is the resort amazing with great terrain for all abilities, there is a great tourist town just 35 miles down the hill in a little Bavarian themed town called Leavenworth. Voted Best Holiday Town in the nation. A beautiful place to see, especially during the Christmas Lighting festival. A great place to retreat after a long day at the pass.

Check out www.leavenworth.org for upcoming events and links.

Well I am not the most experienced skiier - I went to Whistler and found it quite overwhelming... I got a bit lost then end up on a black run and fell over and really hurt my ankle. Whislter is HUGE HUGE HUGE and expensive and crowded but if you are an accomplished skiier you'll love it.
When I was in Canada I loved going to the small mountains like Cypress and Grouse and Seymour, easy slopes, not long lift queues and lots of fun.
For grand sweeping spectacular views head to Fernie... but don't tell anyone!

oh - I am with Les Trois Vallees too - such diversity and you can ski ALL day and not get back where you started ! Piste, off piste, full slopes and empty ones - it has it all. But yeah - this year was a bad season - but then I believe it was everywhere.
oh - now I am snow sick ! I wanna go ski !!
