hi,

I've always wondered.

i've heard lectures about these religions(separately) where the speaker recounts some verses with referance to the prophets something to the effect of : this man is not an outsider, he is one among you with your language and culture, listen to him :
This line is what I think a PR exercise during the initial phase of the religion.

Then, how could europeans(mainly) become christians and asians(mainly) become muslims? The language and culture preached is totally different.Alien.

Also, how could they accept some god of some distant land? What psychology?

The missionaries must have been really really good.

It is strange.

In Europe, typically the missionaries came in and softened things up. They'd insert Christian myths into the local mythologies and try to convert people. The missionaries were often followed by colonists who, the missionaries would insist, were "entirely peaceful". Then the armed soldiers would come in. The newcomers would behave themselves until the balance was tipped and then: "Convert or else".

Sometimes they outright skipped the intervening steps and went straight to military force. A good look at Britain's history will demonstrate how "peacefully" the Christian faith spread.

The Islamic faith spread close to the same way: Lots of charisma backed with fire and steel.

Despite the wishful thinking of modern Christians, the conquest of Europe by the Christian faith was not peaceful nor simply by "word of mouth". The Roman Empire did a great job paving the way (literally) for the early church.
