Hey, I like finger tattoos but some artists don't do hands or fingers because the ink will have a tendency to blur or fade easily. Consider that you probably move your hands the most out of your entire body. Because it doesn't last long i think i'd have a fun finger tattoo if i was to get one. If the ink fades rather than blurs you could always get it done again maybe.
If your looking for ideas of what to have on your middle finger here are some ideas...
1)Lightning
2)STFU
3)WTF?
4)DILLIGAF
5)Teardrop
6)Mustache
7)Question Mark
This is the most strange finger tattoo i have seen http://modblog.bmezine.com/2006/02/06/i-swallow-facials-please/#comments
The best tattoo to get no matter where you get it on your body is a meaniful tattoo. I've seen some nice finger tattoos with someones name or more importantly a date that is special to them.
Here is a link that will show you some finger and hand tattoo's http://modblog.bmezine.com/category/tattoos/hands/
Good Luck

I think that a tattoo running down the side of your finger would be interesting....I've never seen one and it seems potentially awesome.
I have seen hand and finger tattoos that have faded and blurred. Which means that you will either have to get it touched up every few years or live with a faded tattoo. I know some artists do free touch ups for any of their work, but others don't. So it could get costly if you have to pay. If you do it, I wouldn't get something intricate or detailed. That will look worse blurry than a simple piece. I would think that healing might be difficult. Your hands go through a lot of wear and tear, especially if you have a job that requires you working with your hands. Your fingers rub together, you wash your hands a lot (or at least should), paper cuts, burns, animal bites. It seems like it would be difficult to keep clean. And you would always have to make sure that you have sunblock on your hands (or just have one pale finger).
I would try to draw something (or have someone else draw) on the side of your finger with a sharpie and see how long it lasts and how it looks by the end of the day. It won't be the same as a tattoo (obviously). But if it looks like crap after only a few hours, it might be something you want to rethink. Good luck with whatever you decide!!

I think that running down the side would be worse for wearing out than on the top. Just think about how often your fingers brush together.
I have a small daisy on the top of my foot, and it is close to 3 1/2 years old. I was told it would fade quickly right there, but so far it's still got great color. My mom has a small flower on the top of one of her toes, and her's is still good, too.
Also, even though most people aren't prejudiced against tattoo's anymore, putting one in such a visible location could cause you some problems. Unless you've got other visible ones already. Some artists won't do hand tattoo's (or facial tattoo's) for that reason.
If you do get it, make sure and apply sunblock to it everyday, to help as much as you can with the fading that will be caused by the sun.

Tattoos are going to be there forever, even if the ink fades and gets gross. There's no way to remove it, unless you go for surgery, and even then, that's chancy.
But women have been doing temporary tattoos on their hands for centuries with henna. See this link at Mehendi World:
http://www.mehendiworld.com/
The great thing is that you can go really wild, BUT in a few weeks it will be completely gone, and you can try something new. You don't have to live with it forever, or you can keep touching it up as long as you like.
At any rate, I think it's a good idea to do a temporary tattoo first, to see if you really like it. If you do, then look into a good tattoo artist. Visible tattoos will keep you out of the military, I just read, so if I had a son, I'd be really tempted to have him tattooed.

a lot of people get ring tattoos, which are sometimes fine and sometimes worn.. so a tattoo on the side of your finger is just a chance you'll have to take. i think it's a great idea, but in a couple years it could get really bad looking because you use your hands a lot. if you do decide to do this, then go to a really good tattoo artist, because in the long run it will have better quality and will wear out less. you can get it retouched every few years, which would keep it looking alright. but overall, it's a chance you'll have to decide for yourself.

I really don't think it's a good idea. The skin on your finger is not ideal for getting a tattoo, since it tends to wrinkle and age before any other part of your body. And since you wash your hands all the time, and is the part of your body that is exposed to the sun that would tan first (next to your face of course, but you should be wearing sunscreen there too), it will fade a lot and very quickly. However, if you really want one, that is your choice.

I have a tat on my hand. I think it looks great. Granted it's not on my finger, but it's still there. If you like it girl go get it. Whatever anyone else thinks is irrelevant. I do have to say that is one of the most painful spots to get one, is on the hand. If it does happen to fade, it is just an excuse to get it another tattoo.
