You need a very good OCR software, which can convert the scanned images to editable text. This won't be an easy task, as unrecognizable characters must be manually typed. If your document is not that long, you might as well retype the whole thing.

When you scan a document, the scanner sees just what is there and displays it on the computer. The computer just sees the file as an image, just the same as if you had scanned a picture of an airplane. The computer does not know what words are there or if there even are words. If you want to edit a document, you will have to type the whole thing yourself. Sorry!

Its called a "Rich Text Document" or file extension ".rtf". In the Save dialog box, check and see if either one is available.

Then, when you're in the MS Word Open dialog box, make sure that you have "All Files" selected, sometimes the default will be set at "All Word Documents". Be warned, the text may appear raw, but it is otherwise format-table.

Since the scanner only scans it as an image file, you need to scan it to an ocr programme, one of these should be supplied with the scanner. This will decode it into text, although you will initially have to train it by correcting it's errors.
