Anything will roll over if you drive it like an idiot. You have to remember a jeep isnt a sports car. Take turns slowly and avoid sudden manuvers if possible. I've had 3 Jeeps, one bieng lifted 4 inches with 33s and havent rolled any yet.

Take it to a trusted mechanic and make sure it checks out mechanical-wise. 85K is up there, but it should still have many miles to go. Take it for a nice long test drive, and be sure to try it on the highway as well. Be prepared to have average (15-17) mpg. Is it a 6 cyl or 8 cyl? Do you plan on towing with it?

Yes they're good trucks (not cars). Whoever owned the vehicle previously must have neglected the motor, or something cause Jeep engines especially the 4.0L Straight 6 is bulletproof.

As for rolling over easily, sure they will if you drive like a moron. I've taken my Jeep on some pretty ugly trails and haven't even come close to rolling it. Don't understand how people roll their "SUV's" so easily.

If you decide to buy the Jeep take it to a repair shop and have them go through the vehicle for you to make sure that its in good shape mechanical wise.

Jeep vehicles are pretty reliable. Just make sure that the one you are interested in is in good condition. Look for oil/fluid drops under the car and oil/fluid on the motor. Also, if you drive it and notice it is hard to crank or that it doesn't have much power, don't bother with it, you will probably end up putting more in repairs than you want. As with all vehicles, to determine their liability, etc., is based on how they were maintained. Your best bet would be to have a mechanic that you know and trust to go with you to take a good look over the vehicle, and he would be able to ask questions that you probably wouldn't think of.

Hope this helps.

I had the same question as to why a new motor at such low miles. The 4 liter is good for easily 200,000 miles. Agree, to have the jeep checked and see if maintenance has been performed. Transmission fluid and differential fluid should be changed and look good. Have two jeeps one Grand and One Cherokee. MUCH higher milage than that and run every day.
Good Luck and welcome to the Jeep Club.

115,000 on our 1999 GC. Still going strong. Why a new motor at 85,000?

Agree with all above except the first. Also remember to try the 4x4. I always take mine to a wide trail,or field, with hills. this will tell you if everything works.

You can roll anything over if you are stupid.

I would say yes they are good if you take care of it. New engine at 85k means somethings wrong. Dont buy it. It was abused.
